Well, he does have the courage to work out divorce details with his wife while she lies in her hospital bed. And he has the conviction to blast the president for cheating with an intern while he himself cheats with an intern. And he is independent-minded enough to change his religion to his mistress's religion. He is grounded in core beliefs enough to dump his wife for his mistress twice and try to get Clinton out of office despite Clinton's popularity and to lie to a House Ethics Committee. And he is definitely best equipped for the job of Lord Hippocrite.
So yeah, I can see why the paper backs him!

I'm sorry, I just can't see a "President Gingrich."

He's in the running to become the Gingrich who stole Christmas.

"I'm sorry, I just can't see a "President Gingrich"
Would that be worse than 4 more years of President Obama?

Personally speaking, I think it would. But then you'll be shocked to learn that I don't think Obama has been a bad president.
That's not really what I was saying, though. Rather, I can't see the American voter electing Gingrich. He's very unlikable - and that's not just a personal sentiment, but rather is reflected in his unfavorable ratings. I think Romney has a much better chance to beat Obama.

Newt's the smartest guy running, on both sides. Unfortunately, he also has the most baggage. A GOP version of Hillary Clinton, but with more political experience.
He'd be great in an advisory capacity, thought. Definitely NOT a guy you would want to face in a debate.

Obama has never had a chance to do anything. Waste of 4 years.
As far as Grinich...or what ever his name is, his back ground speaks for corruption and lies. Let the repubs have what ever they want. Ridiculous. Vote independent.

Is he, though? I mean, I know he is the GOP's self-proclaimed "idea man"... it's just that a lot of those ideas come off as, well, crazy-pants.
He did have a few moments of candor, though, which I appreciate - such as the "humane immigration policy" stand during the last debate, and his objection to the Ryan budget which almost cost him this primary election right out of the gate.

Serrano, if you are old enough to have been aware of politics in the Clinton era, then you should not have to answer that questions. Gingrich is the worst collection of attributes one could ask for in a president. And would be far worst than you can imagine.

Obama has to take the blame for the rise of The Newt.

Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
Which is the dumbest has yet to be seen but both are definitely in the running. :-)

The GOP nomination process has already become a stand-up comedy show, led by Mitt Romney, a guy who needs to wise up fast to the fact that if Americans have a choice, they’d actually rather prefer not to have him as their leader.
He’s being hounded by a bunch of semi-literate religious extremist exclusionists (with the exception of Jon Huntsman, the only sane one in the pack) who are supported by voters who think that everyone and everything they don‘t agree with is either against the Constitution they’ve never read (and probably t understand even if they could) or “socialist.”
I honestly don’t think the addition of Sarah Palin to this crowd would make the GOP race significantly funnier – or sadder – than I already is.

Newt seems to be trying his best!

well then, sushisake3, you'll just have to vote for Obama, and 'change', and more unicorns.

No; the calcified but fractured, intransigent but undecided, incestuous Republican Party is to be blamed for the resurrection of this incompetent zombie horror from the '80s. An economy mired in recession and Republicans fired up with Tea Party zealousness practically gives them the White House on a platter if they could just find someone satisfactory to - who? Which splinter? And satisfaction: Ronald Reagan would be rejected by a large portion of this crowd.
Newt is just another Not Mitt. Amnesiacs may accept him now, but if he wins the nomination, there won't be enough time until election day to finish dragging the skeletons out of his copious closet.
In fact, I don't think that he WANTS to win. He was forced to run lest he lose his gravitis as a professional "candidate in waiting," and I'm sure his success is as surprising to him as it is to any educated observer. While he's known to have a mouth which outpaces his brain, some of his recent comments seem almost designed to alienate the most conservative that he needs to win.
His wife must be furious: how is he supposed to support her Tiffany habit on the president's salary?

"if Americans have a choice, they'd actually rather prefer not to have him ( Romney ) as their leader"
We'll see if the Republicans nominate him. Question - why is it Obama has said he is the underdog in this election?
unreconstructed - Sushi can't vote in this election, heh heh.

I think this is a point worth reiterating. Regan may be worshiped as a hero by the GOP, but Regan would never pass muster with today's fanatics. Regan raised taxes. Regan expanded the government. Regan *compromised." He'd be ridden out of town on a rail.
