    Good, Google, Good!
So how did this breach happen (was it due to having servers in CN -or was that irrelevant in the break-in)? Is the potential loss of CN revenue less then the potential loss of credibility and or intellectual property from remaining in CN?

Who ends up losing more, Google (business) or China (business credibility)? When a big player like Google says "enough" to the shenanigans others will pay attention.

Google said it does not believe the cyber attack succeeded. "Only two Gmail accounts appear to have been accessed, and that activity was limited to account information (such as the date the account was created)

Google has further decided it is no longer willing to continue censoring its search results in Chinese Google sites

Good. Open it up, and if that makes them angry, get out.

So they got nailed by a phishing scheme. How could they fall for that? Before google leaves, they should mass mail how to search and use proxies.

Of course, somehow, China will attempt to play the victim card in this matter also, stating that outsiders are interfering with Chinese internal affairs...

They may also blame the Dalai Lama for the hacking incident.

If I were a dissident there, I'd boot up from a known good BootCD ISO only do pure HTML, enable ssl on all accounts in addition to TOR and proxies.

From Google's reaction, I'm reasonably confident it was not a physhing, it was an attack on accounts on GOOG servers. Else it does ont explain how they were able to get to subject lines but not email content. (I mean, in addition to GOOG's reaction --that's the tell tale).

If GOOG wants to really upset CN, take up all infra in CN and move all of it to TW. Taat'll learn 'um.

So long China is enjoying healthy economic growth and leading the world economies....these issues make no sense (human rights, freedom of press etc....) because nobody is there to fight for justice.

because nobody is there to fight for justice.

That's just not true. There are thousands of political prisoners (i.e. in prison) in China --a few are radicals, most are people who defied the political status quo or just didn't acquiesce to current political thought. There are an unknown number of lesser dissidents who engage in online political conversation --tho in doing that play a cat and mouse game with authorities.

Let Freedom Ring. The Chinese people certainly have a wonderful history and could handle more freedoms.

Don't be ashamed, just encourage more change in the Chinese government. The main issue with China today is the government believes it should control the people instead of the people controlling the government. If that way of thinking gets reversed, then China would be much better off.

So long as there is a status quo there will be people to fight against it. For better or worse.

Hope that from this China leaders will start to think that freedom of speech is NOT a joke.
