All areas filled with un-qualified, but certified government employees with no fear of losing jobs no less!!!

Wow.....this just goes to show how vulnerable we are to cyber attack.
SushiSake3
Skip, President Obama set up a cyberspace security team last month.
He didn't miss the boat. :-)
skipthesong
Sushi, how many dealings have you had with government workers or contractors?
I could care less who set up a security team, if its filled with the typical government workers, I can bet very few know what they are really doing. Book smart types - degrees and cert, but no real world experience. And a whole lot of arrogance. Go to the one of the bases sometimes and just listen to their conversations.
SushiSake3
Skip, te point is Obama's team realized cyber security is an emerging area of threat and set up a team to deal with it.
There has never been a cyber-security team in the U.S. government before President Obama set this one up.
It seems like you demand perfection from the get go.
"if its filled with the typical government workers, I can bet very few know what they are really doing."
I'm guessing they've selected a lot of real smart people. Doing anything less and risking ridicule and failure wouldn't cut it.

Yo Sushi,
Obama set this one up...... hey, I don't care. It could hve been the pope for all I care. There is a serious problem with government workers. I'm guessing they've selected a lot of real smart people. " You are aware that I once worked for the government, aren't you?
It seems like you demand perfection from the get go. " only in my women.

You are really really REALLY naive if you believe that the U.S. Government hasn't been combating the cyber-threat until now. I agree with skip to some degree about the nature and quality of government hires but to say that we haven't been doing anything until this most recent wand-waving of Obama's is simply daft.

USNinJapan: Believe me, I don't mean to offend. but after two years of working for the government and then doing some contracting (I still do) I have very little faith in MOST of the people I meet. Of course there are some really good people, it just seems the upper echelon is a bit off. If you don't like how I am painting this picture, go to the embassy a few times, deal with the IRS, etc...

Like I said above I don't disagree with you 100% nor do I agree with you 100% either. I was just pointing out that if Sushi believes that the government has been sitting on its ass doing nothing effective at all about cyber terrorism until this most recent cyber security team of Obama's he's dead wrong. I mean, Gore inventing the internet was bad enough, but Obama doing the first useful thing about the cyber-threat is too much. The anti-cyber-threat protocols and precautions already in place make me wish we were more lax with it becase it makes getting the job done more difficult so often...
SushiSake3
USNinJapan2 - you're right. I was naive.
You are right, I'm over it, I'm outa here. :-)

So...was it the Chinese again? Would be really surprised if NKorea had the capability.

I'm willing to believe that NK is just pitching another fit. Hacking doesn't require much more than a PC and some smart people. I suspect that the Un Kim is just practicing kicking, stomping and whining in typical NK fashion. Iggy them both.
sharky1
Oh no!!!! Not the big hack attack!!!

Skip, There was a time when I really really resented your opinion of govt. workers. Then I moved back to the states.
I have to say, I have come to see your side of the story a lot more clearly, especially in the IT world.
