unfortunate but not unexpected unrest, may spread to America even. Economy conditions seem too severe in Advanced Countries.

I reckon Canada will be where it peters out.If it jumps the pond. Which I doubt, but some14some apparently hopes for. Economically and politically Canada is much closer to Europe than America.

Question is, what happens when next time a Euro government really screws up? These riots and the most recent ones in France were set off by tragic events (police shooting teens) but still, it is only a matter of time before much more lethal bungling occurs.

These rioters are appalling, especially the "anarchists" who use a thin layer or political posturing to cover up the fact that all they really want it to burn some stuff. If you are angry at the government, why burn some guy's car that is parked out on the street? That guy is probably been hurt by the economy just as much as you. If you are angry at banks and corperations, why smash some poor small business owner's shop - something they probably worked their whole life for and put all their money in?

If you think these riots will spred to the US, then you don't know US political culture very well. It's different from Europe. We don't riot here, with very few exceptions. The race riots were one, but as always the rioters hurt their own communities more than anyone else's. It was black owned shops that got destroyed, black people's cars that got burned, and black people that got injured.

Riots are totally self-defeating... you are only hurting yourselves.

Doubtful Canada hasn't been near as effected by the economic down turn as the US has, due in part to a better regulated banking system and no subprime stupidity. As well the unions at least in Ontario have done a pretty good job at turning off the student body of the whole worker/class solidarity thing.

That being said there was a roit in Montreal early this year, that happened for almost the same reason but didn't grow to this size.
