And Obama is helpless to do anything about it.

Yep, you're right. But Obama didn't have the contract to drill, BP did. BP had a contract to clean up any mess they create, Obama didn't.
But Obama has his heel on BP's neck. < :-)

sarge: "And Obama is helpless to do anything about it."
You sound almost happy about this, sarge. I guess if a human-made disaster like this can affect a guy you don't like, it's a good thing, eh? Wow... astounding the lengths some people will go to try and sling mud in politics. We should ALL be praying/hoping that this doesn't get worse than it is, and that laws can be passed, and moratoriums like Obama is trying to get into place (stopped by a judge who clearly has vested interests in the companies that drill/lease rigs), so that it is not repeated.
Sadly, people still probably aren't going to learn, and money greedy calls for more oil will see this kind of thing happen again.

BP stuffed up again..their submarine smashed into the containment area. This company deserves to be smashed to the ground for its crimes and flippant attitude towards the environment.

It's been 60 days now. The Obama administration has been turning away international help offering to assist with cleaning up the oil. Why?
The Coast Guard has been hindering volunteers from sucking up the oil? Why?
The federal government has been refusing the State governments permission to create sand barriers to keep oil from reaching their shores. Why?
Who's side is Obama on? The businesses and fishermen along the Gulf coast or the politicians using the crisis to push the Tax and Trade legislation?
Obama didn't blow up the oil rig and he's not involved in capping the well but he should be doing everything within his considerable power to prevent the oil from hitting the shoreline and from covering the fishing grounds. Obama appears to be sabotaging the U.S. effort.

Maybe Obama needs the disaster to be even bigger for him to be able to reallly do what he really wants to do (maybe he has a hidden agenda..) In other words, people dont really open their eyes unless a really really big disaster happens, ie 9/11

The Gulf oil disaster is rooted in social conditions and processes that extend far beyond the particular actions of BP and other corporations responsible for the Deepwater Horizon incident.

This is almost as bad as Bush's Katrina, and that still isn't over. Both are truly horrible disasters, and on top of that they are in the same region. I think that this disaster will have far more repercussions than Katrina though. Hopefully BP and the government can get their acts together and deal with this.

Against stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.

How depressing. This damage tally will go on and on. Satellite photos show that whole area of the gulf as just... gray. The DISCOVERY channel website used only a single word for the picture, and it was an expletive. I have been to those Florida islands. I won't be going back.
Nobody cares anymore, and we would all have been better off if the oil and the gulf had belonged to people who care.

Klein2, you may not care, but I do. I have a son and daughter-n-law are stationed at Panama City and this affects their lives. I have property in Florida, not coastal, but it'll have an affect on the lives in my area. There are 1000s working to clean this up. There are $$$ being donated. And most everybody still gets upset when they see this disaster. Most people still have to work, do their lives as before and can't help. But they care.
There are a few who want to turn this into a political disaster caused by Obama. Those are the ones who don't care. Rush says this is nothing and it's all going to evaporate. And he has a lot of people convinced.
But lots of people care. < :-)

Hmm! More than 1800 people dead and 81 billion dollars worth of property damage as well as Bush's response to the crisis created by the sixth most powerful hurricane ever in the U.S. and human stupidity (the levees' hurricane ratings).
vs.
11 workers killed and oil gushing in the gulf and destroying beaches and properties along the coast as well as critically injuring several industries in the region, all caused by human error and human stupidity (+ Obama's response to the crisis...) And we still do not know exactly what the cause of the initial explosion was...
Maybe you are right, who knows! Guess we'll have to await for the evacuation orders, eh? What a SNAFU!
