Good grief, if you can't walk around a mall in Finland in safety, what is this world coming to?

"Politicians, social workers and religious leaders have all urged tighter gun laws..."

The difference between Finland and other nations with idiotic gun laws is that this will probably bring about a change in regulations.

sarge - The Bible says to weep with those who weep ... not all that difficult to do.

"the gunman is belived to have killed his ex-wife"

This is indeed sad.

A completely meaningless waste of life.

All the more reason I am for "open carry". In cases like this more guns are needed. In a gun-toter state like Texas this man would have only made it a few steps.

Perhaps this man was upset at the winter produce selection -but still that is no reason to start shooting the place up.

He had came in Finland from former Yogoslavia area as a war-refugee. He had no permit for the gun what he used. But was known for domestic violent and he was known by police. Actually there died 5 and the shooter. Jealousy seem to be the reason for his madness. And the victims were his former wifes co-workers. The ex-wife was Finnish. This what we know by now.

What is it about Finnish society that makes people do this?

Wau... that news even got here?

Yeah... nasty day today here. Too bad Cop's did't got him before he shot himself. Well... one gunman less now.

Oh my. A lesson for all of us. Banning guns, I'm afraid, is little more than bandaging a hemorrhage. Europe needs a long, thoughtful look in the mirror.

Well, depression is one of the number one killers/suicide causes in Finland. Lack of winter light. Add loneliness, a touch of alcohol and freezing temperatures, and I wonder how long it would take even well balanced people to go off track? Guns are the irrelevant item here. Japan has more attacks like this with kitchen knives. (Check the stats before you knee-jerk and fire back, please!)

Thank you. A very thoughtful reply. I can see it is not only guns that must be banned, but alcohol as well.

Spent some time in Espoo a few years ago. Nice, quiet and calm place with very friendly people. Friday nights every body is drunk and wild , and the place is littered with garbage and by Monday morning, everything is spic and span. Depression and suicide is a problem with the Finns.
