Two other Canadians, both BC gang members, were killed in a similar manner outside a restaurant in Guadalajara last year.

Whalen said Ivans pleaded guilty in Kamloops, British Columbia, in 2002 to one charge of drug trafficking and was fined $1,000.

Only a $1,000 fine for drug trafficking? Not that it matters now....but jeeze.

Come soon to a Canadian city near you: DRUGS WARS - and you thought Mexico was so far away.

    No pity for those fools.

I thought everyone in BC was too stoned on marijuana to get involved in such things as trafficking cocaine!

skipthesong: Actually, gang activity is alive and well in Canada, unfortunately, and in particular on the West Coast and the city of Toronto. There were a lot of drug-related gang killings in Toronto a couple of years back that increased our overall annual homocide rate (particularly by guns) up a LOT. There's a lot of Triad activity in Canada in particular, if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway, my point is that from some of the comments about these guys it seems pretty clear that there was something dodgy going on, and it sounds gang-related (or at least drug-related). Still... while these guys may have been up to no good, if Mexican gangs want to put even more pressure on themselves there's nothing like adding more nations to the list of those getting involved.
