The lowest of the low. No salvation. Sick, sick, sick, sick, sick. May the souls of those good ladies rest in peace with Allah /God.

Why would anyone want to kill women working to eradicate polio? It's insane.

Rumours about vaccines and other medications are sadly rife in many developing countries. From beliefs that AIDS was cooked up in a US lab to kill off blacks, condoms are ineffective against HIV to the dangers of Polio vaccines. They usually come from political and religious headcases - the Taliban a foul example.

nandakamanda:
In their mind, yes, salvation. They were fighting "fitna",,, pollution on earth. So, in their minds they were doing a good thing.
You might want to familiarize yourself with radical islamic doctrine, otherwise events will continue to surprise you.

Willi, I know. (Sometimes you almost present their case for them.)
I feel we need to step back, be dispassionate and point out the reality. Many are afraid to speak. Remember the courage of the girl who was shot in the head for daring to speak out.
The reality is that what they believe in is actually wrong, (even though they are 100% convinced it is right) because it is blind belief in fixed inflexible, dead scripture, interpreted by fallible humans, a fine display of total ignorance of life and the heart and the true nature of Allah/God. Such rigidity allows them to believe complete garbage, superstition and outright conspiracy nonsense right on top of their holy scrip.
Just occasionally we hear stories of those lucky ones who got away from their clutches, had an epiphany, and realized what they were doing was wrong by any other standard.

The whole point of this campaign is to eradicate this terrible disease from the entire world, like smallpox. If it remains in even one country, it could break out and spread again. And that will be on the head of the Taliban and other assorted god-bothering lunatics that are allowing polio to make a comeback.
