This really makes you wonder who's in charge of his security detail huh? Would'nt it make sense to clear ALL overlooking houses BEFORE stepping out in public?

It's pretty bad when the president of the country, that we liberated, isn't safe to make a speach.

Like Nuckin mentioned above, we don't check out every place that could be a line of fire? The Afghanistan security force blundered.

Well here's the deal. I was looking at a few pictures from the incident, and one shot shows two guys that clearly look like private security guys taking cover behind a vehicle (Blackwater maybe). According to AP the "militants" attacked from a three story guesthouse 300 yards away. Now get this, apparently the entire area where the president was speaking was scoured and checked for days to ensure security. Even with all that, they still were able to brazenly attack.

Just last week a Marine unit was sent to Afghanistan to cooperate with the British military. This is an ominous sign for sure, fighting two wars on two fronts, when America can least afford to.

What about all those weapons on the parade square? Unloaded! That answers the question - this guy Karzai (ex-coke manager or something like that)is not in there because the people picked him. So I'd have to tip my hat off to him for at least stepping outside. I can image that not more than a handful of locals don't want to see him go. To the rest? The sooner he was gone the better. There's Dostum's people, Najibula's people with their payback, there's Massud's people... Karzai? When the heck did he ever earn the right to be calling the shots (or pretending to be)?

And the security for the whole event was in the hands of the mercenaries. They screwed up.
