Hamas executes two 'Israeli collaborators' in Gaza

GAZA CITY —

Gaza’s Hamas rulers on Tuesday executed two Palestinians convicted of collaboration with Israel, the interior ministry said in a statement.

It was the second time this year that the Islamist movement had carried out an execution of someone accused of ‘collaborating’ with the Israelis.

The statement did not say how the death sentence was carried out, and it was not immediately clear when the two men were convicted.

In May, a man referred to as A.S. was executed by firing squad after being convicted of collaboration a month earlier.

Under Palestinian law, collaboration with Israel, murder and drug trafficking are all punishable by death.

By law, all execution orders must be approved by the Palestinian president before they can be carried out, but Hamas no longer recognises the legitimacy of Mahmud Abbas, whose four-year term ended in 2009.

In recent months, Hamas has arrested several alleged collaborators, and warned it would prosecute any “traitor” working for the Jewish state.

In March, a Gaza military court condemned a man to death and sentenced another to 15 years of forced labour for collaborating with Israel. Both judgements are subject to appeal.

In April 2010, Gaza’s Hamas rulers carried out a death sentence against two Palestinians accused of collaboration in the first such execution since the Islamists seized power in 2007.

A month later, three more people were executed on charges unrelated to collaboration, human rights groups say.

Israeli security forces routinely use Palestinian informers to thwart militant attacks and assist in the assassination of top militants.

Glad we did not get any details about the collaboration. That allows us plenty of room to imagine it was totally non-existant.

Not going to support death sentences in any case, but you know, they just might have been guilty of assisting the occupier.

    More religious nonsense.

Although Hamas doesn't say so publicly, it also appears that openly voicing disagreement with them is enough to get someone executed.

We know - and Hamas has admitted as much - that the killers in this instance are backed by Iran. Gaza is as much occupied by Iran as you imagine it to be occupied by Israel. Any blame for the medieval theocracy in Iran? I'll take your silence to mean you in fact do support executions of Palestinians, by a foreign government with no historical claim to the area.

You will take my silence as (blank)? Dude, it does not matter if I type or don't. Your wild imagination will take you whereever you like anyway. Take for example:

Gaza is as much occupied by Iran as you imagine it to be occupied by Israel.

When was the last time an Iranian helicopter or jet flew over Gaza? How about a Palestinian one? When was the last time an Iranian soldier walked in Gaza? How about an Israeli one? When was the last time a cargo of anything was inspected by Iranians immediately before entering Gaza? How about Israelis?

You can say blue is red and red is delicious all day and all night, but the only person you seem to convince is yourself.

Gaza is as much occupied by Iran as you imagine it to be occupied by Israel.

Wow, that's a disconnect from reality of Breivik proportion.

It's an absolute outrage that these two men lo-- wait, the Isrealis didn't kill him? Eh, nevermind. Anything else on JT tonight?

Hamas admits they are funded by Iran:

Note the source - the Financial Times, the one paper your hero Noam Chomsky has said can be trusted.

I understand your depth of understanding in GEO politics. I cannnot get over what I have read.

Victorious, I have read the web. It was written in March 2008. There have been many development since then. This is 2011, pal.

chewitup, time to give it up. BreitbartVictorious is absolutely correct. Much like Syria and Hezbollah, Hamas takes its marching orders from Tehran, to say nothing of its funding. Time to read a little, my boy.

ben4short, how do you get from Gaza being occupied by Iran, to Iran giving the orders to Hamas and call them the same?

As yabits said, disconnected from reality.

    ben4short

chewit, everyone knows that Iran does not **literally **have troops etc in Gaza, but Victorious was not being literal, he was speaking metaphorically. So yes, in that sense, since Hamas is being funded/armed/directed by Iran, one can metaphorically say that our dear friends in Tehran are occupying Gaza. Get it?
