And if the smugglers had not been smuggling then no one would have died. Breaking laws and playing the victim at the same time doesn't work Hamas.

Oh come on. You know it works. Its been working for years. Its Standard Operating Procedure. They shoot rockets at Israel, and claim its entirely Israels fault that their civilians die when Israel shoots back.

Score one point of respect for Egypt from me. I didn't really think they had it in them.

Don't use gas, but rather try cement.

djuice, smuggling? If some gang surrounded your house and you had to dig tunnels to get food and a refrigerator, would you call that smuggling? Only if you somehow recognized the authority of the gang to surround your house. I don't think you would. I also think you might take some random shots at the people surrounding your house.

The only way Egypt could justify this is if they flipped Israel the bird and air dropped food and refrigerators etc despite Israel's blockade. But that would take away the need for the tunnels to import food and other necessary items of life. Only the want of guns for freedom and revenge would remain. Until the needs are eliminated and only the wants remain, the tunnels are justified. Egypt has joined Israel in oppression and murder.

"simple Palestinian workers who were trying to earn their daily bread"

Gosh, aren't there any job openings there for anything but smugglers?

Earning their daily bread smuggling their daily loaf of explosives! No Pity!

Sarge. Tunnel running is probably the most dangerous but most highly paid manual labor there, and you can do it without compromising your personal integrity.

The news in Egypt probably reads "4 terrorists die in smuggling plot".

Because of the quote I thought you were only talking about Gazans. Then I realized you must be talking about Israel too and especially Israel.

Sarge, if you knew anything about Gaza, then you'd recognize that the sad answer is 'no'. There are no official statistics, but even the most conservative estimations give unemployment rates well beyond 50%. Those who are lucky enough to have a job, cannot earn enough to make a living, so that 80~90% of households live in poverty.

Sounds like Egypt took a lessen from Nazi Germany. Wasn't there an uproar about the gassing of Jews? But it's alright to gas Palestinians? Talk about two faced. If Egypt was aware that they were there, why not arrest them? < :-)

gonemad - I knew the answer to my question was no when I posted it.

It seems that the Egyptians aren't allowed to use force to stop the smugglers because the smugglers can't get any other jobs and, well, heck, they have families to support, LOL.

Why would I be talking about Israel when the article is about Egypt and Palestine?

...and firearms and missiles and explosives and drugs and human trafficking and...

The US gives Egypt over 2 billion dollars a year in foreign aid. So where's the outcry to stop aid to Egypt?
