The captain is rightly taking the fall. In my experience the bigger the ego the bigger the fall. Plus he's a macho Italian so I've no doubt he'll have been swaggering about in a stupid uniform pretending to ne Nelson and impressing girls who could be his daughter!

He isn't going to fit in well in gaol.

I hear the story of the electrical blackout started with Schettino. This story delayed the abandoning of the ship by one hour. I just wonder if he came up with that story before or after the men in the engine room told him there was a 70 foot gash in the ship? They told him only a few minutes after the crash. I am guessing after. Because of that story, crew told people to go back to their cabins. I am thinking he was too proud to change his story and decided to look a hero by taking the time to steer back to shore. If not for that, 12 or more people would not be dead. They would have all safely boarded life boats.
