There is no possible way for him to know how many lives he has changed or influenced. One person that many do not know is the daughter of Johnny Cash, Rosanne Cash. She used his ideas as a muse for her music. The poetry of quantum physics inspired her. Happy Birthday, Mr. Hawking. You will never know all the people you affected, including this simple, admiring reader of every book and lecture. You are a world-wide treasure and HERO. Stay well, and stay happy.

In his recorded speech, Hawking pleaded for interplanetary travel, arguing that humans faced a grim future unless they spread out from their terrestrial home. “I don’t think we will survive another thousand years without escaping beyond our fragile planet.”
Hope the people in power are listening. The U.S. should have had a colony on Mars by now, but gave up sending humans into space after its lunar successes. With the space know-how we have, things should be much more advanced than just the international space station that circles the Earth.
Perhaps if China puts its people on the moon in the near future, the U.S. and other countries will revive their human programs and start sending their people into space.
Another 1,000 years ... if Hawking is correct, that period of time will fly by fast. Of course, won't any of us be around to see it. Wonder which planets out there in space would make a nice home away from home? And if Earth beings do go into new realms of life way out yonder, they should leave their war machines and religions behind.

He may be intelligent, but he's wrong on this. If humans cannot manage the one beautiful planet they've got, they have no business spreading out like cockroaches to other parts of the solar system/galaxy - taking their diseases, warmongering and other problems with them. Put your own back yard in order, then talk about fixing other places.
Sorry to hear he's not well. Get well soon, Prof.

The Truth Matters
Happy Birthday er...Stephen Hawkins.
What is his official title? Doctor? Professor? Either way, I had no idea he was so old. Here's to many more years.
