The numbers as I see them are: 216 Democrats need to vote yes - meaning she can afford to lose 37 of House members at most on this vote. 19 are currently saying they plan to vote no. 48 are undecided. Those are about the most consistent numbers I have seen lately. Would love to hear about some other numbers.

    Obamacare gains ground?

"The CMPI-A/PJM poll demonstrates an extremely high level of concern with the current bill:

Six in ten Americans (60%) agree that a current Democrat proposal to send the Senate health care bill to the president without voting up or down on it is “unfair.”

Most Americans oppose (81%) health care reforms that would increase insurance premiums for healthy people to offset premiums of people who wait until they are diagnosed with an illness to purchase insurance.

Eight Americans in ten (81%) oppose allowing the government to decide what kind of health care coverage Americans are able to purchase.

Most Americans (87%) oppose having a government panel recommend or decide what medical procedures or medical advances your doctor or health plan can or cannot use.

More than eight Americans in ten (84%) support reforms that would allow people to buy health insurance where it is the least expensive, such as across state lines.

Three in four Americans (76%) oppose health care reforms that would raise taxes and cut Medicare benefits to pay for health care subsidies for expanded coverage for those currently insured.

Eight Americans in ten (78%) support health care reforms that would let people buy less costly health plans and save and invest for health care needs in the future on a tax-free basis.

Half of Americans (51%) oppose health care reforms that would let people lock-in premiums by paying more for their insurance.

Most Americans (85%) support health care reforms that would let people get lower premiums for getting or staying healthy.

Eight Americans in ten (82%) support the idea that more money should be invested in the development of cures for the most devastating diseases.

If Rush Limpbough is your go-to guy for news, then 'most Americans don't want this bill.' (cue shrieking) :-)

This is going to pass, especially now the Dennis Kucinich has gone with it. I really have a high respect for Kucinich, one of only a few of our elected politicians that have honor and sticks to his guns. I am surprised he did go with it though. He clearly stated his disagreements, the same thing I've been saying since this started the count down. People are not going to get what they think they are getting and some states are going to benefit more than others.

I really wonder what was the main reason for him to switch.

If Dems pass health care reform using the Slaughter rule, then don't be too surprised or upset when Republicans over turn Liberal sacred cows such as Roe vs. Wade and racial preferences using the same method the next time they are in charge. This is not the right way to create law no matter which side uses it - read the Constitution. I have only recently heard that self-executing legislative maneuvers not as radical as the Slaughter rule have been used in the past by both parties. This is just wrong and so is what Obama is doing now with health care. Dems better think twice before legitimizing such an offensive practice. They won't have a leg to stand on when the tables are turned.

Apparently if you are on the Left and can't argue the substantive points in any given debate it is important to display your 'tolerance' and 'ethical' concern with adolescent slurs about political commentators you have never listened to and know nothing about.

I love it Odogma, all your facts and fuzzy math. You've got to send me that website. Because if I didn't see the facts for real, I'd think you were lying. But you wouldn't do that.

I'll be looking forward to it passing. < :-)

I don't claim to speak for any other site member I have a survey that seems to reflect the numbers presented.

    http://pajamasmedia.com/files/2010/03/CMPIA.PJM-raw-data.pdf

If the link doesn't work I could try to find a better one or suggest that you google "CMPI-A/PJM" hope that helps.

RR, how about these facts, not biased rhetoric but CBO scoring.

Healthcare overhaul will cut the federal deficit by $1.3 trillion over 20 years

The Congressional Budget Office estimated the cost of the proposed healthcare overhaul at $940 billion over 10 years.

How do you like that koolaid? CBO scoring like that is going to sway more than a few conservative Democrats.

It is looking more and more likely that it will PASS!

    The Question,

I looked at that survey. A lot of those questions were things that the republicans have been using to try to scare people, but aren't even in the bill. This was a republican survey to get the slant that the health care plan is "BAD". Somebody did a lot of work. Nice. But I don't care for the slant. < :-)

I was watching the News today, and they showed a clip of Nancy Pelosi saying that they're going to pass it, and that it will be a "significant victory for the American people"

Of course with the vast majority of people opposing the bill, it would be more accurate to say, its a victory for a small minority of Americans, and a big defeat for Almost all Americans.

Heres what I don't understand about this Health Care bill. By passing this bill, nothing will change for Americans. The price of Health Care will not go up, nor will it go down. Insurance companies will still insure people. Supposedly the margins will be squeezed, meaning that companies that can't afford it, will quit selling insurance. They didn't bother with tort reform, so the lawsuits will continue unabated, meaning no break in costs for doctors. Under this bill, its estimated that 1/3rd of doctors currently in practice will, over the next 5 years, leave their practice. Supposedly the government will pass a "doctor fix" to address this problem though. It will force people to purchase insurance, that the government finds acceptable. It will give vast additional powers to the Federal Government, and enforcement authority to the IRS. It doesn't address the underlying issues of Medicare and Medicaid. In fact it strips a great deal of money from both programs, in order to become "deficit neutral". Something everyone and their dog knows is nonsense.

Basically, there is nothing about Obamacare that is good. And a lot about it thats bad. When it comes right down to it, what Dems are hoping is that the idea of "free healthcare" will sell. Of course the reality is, nothing is free. The costs don't go down simply because the government says they should. And the government refuses to address most of the underlying problems, such as tort reform. Everyone still has to pay the same amounts, they just force everyone to pay it through taxes rather then when you're sick, or when you purchase insurance. What will eventually happen is rationed managed care so prevalent in socialist countries. Where you have to wait forever to get your "free healthcare" And the government will decide that certain operations are too risky, or expensive to be covered by Obamacare. Less innovation, more people dying from things that could have been prevented, as the advance of Medicine is slowed tremendously.

One of the worst things about this, is the issue of drugs. Drug companies have long been seen as part of the problem, with high prices in the US, and low prices in the rest of the world. The dirty little secret is, that they recoup their development costs in the US, while other countries force them to sell their products at cost. With Obamacare, this is going to cease, meaning drug companies will no longer be able to afford to develop new drugs and new cures. They won't be able to recoup their losses from failed products, on those products that are successful.

And yet, despite all these negatives, somehow, this is supposed to be a good thing. I just don't see it. I really don't. Come November, a lot of people are going to regret going along with Pelosi. Of course while she'll no longer be speaker, she'll at least keep her seat.
