As the pope and others are noting, the worst of man-made climate change is going to disproportionately affect the poor and weak.

The heat wave compounded the struggles of ordinary Pakistanis as it struck amid the holy, fasting month of Ramadan, when observant Muslims abstain from food or water during daylight hours.

They could've made an exception for fasting by allowing them to properly hydrate themselves with water. All that water splashing (as shown in the photos) only cools you down temporarily.

We're talking about 45c heat. One would think common sense prevails and not the sanctity of one's religion.

Abstaining from food and water? Hydration is the most important thing during high heat. Even those who observe Lenten drink water. If there was enough water, then there is no excuse to not drink it since the body can not live without it.
