Hehe, maybe the US should do that to Venzuela too. Sounds like he did exactly what Chavez is doing now.

No mention of the hundreds of Panamanians who were killed or wounded during the invasion so the CIA could retrieve and punish an agent gone bad.

U.S. forces quickly overwhelmed Panama’s defenses, with the whole operation taking less than a month

Great work from a nation that loves war. Who will they invade next?? I wonder?? Where is there money to be made??? Maybe somewhere in Africa or maybe China???

Noriega was a CIA operative from the 1950s through the 1980s. While he is guilty of many crimes US operation "Just Cause" was anything but. Noriega was a man that we made much the way we made Sadm Hussein or the Shah of Iran. I still maintain that the biggest motivation for the invasion of Panama and toppling of Noriega was to get our hands on documents that were very damaging to Bush Sr. concerning the Iran Contra affair among other things. Noriega had become non-compliant and certainly knew enough to hurt the administration and the CIA. The whole "enemy of the US" crap that the media built up around that time made it easy for Bush and his buddies to gain public support. The ultimate goal was to make sure that the trail of evidence of CIA operations in Central and South America was broken so that no one could put it back together again. Free him, and to hell with the French charges why do they even care about money laundering that happened 20 years ago?

Let's add one more little fact. The drugs that Noriega flew were flown under the nose of the CIA and possibly even with their knowledge. Planes flew south with weapons and enterpising guy that he was Noriega started filling them with drugs for the return trip north. At the end of the day George Bush Sr. is every bit as much of a criminal as Manuel Noriega.

usaexpat, at the end of the day Noriega's worth as an intelligence assest was overshadowed by his determination to become the largest drug king in Central and South America.

    It's not difficult to understand.

-No need to over-think or over-excuse Noriega, mi amiga. He'd've had you for breakfast.

USARonin: Not overexcusing just saying there is more to it than his drug traficking.

usaexpat, my advice: Don't worry about Noriega.

He's doin' just fine in Florida considerin' some of the naughty things he was up to. Good health and dental plan... family visits... He's OK.

Maybe you should pray The Rosary and try to covene with God via the Virgin Mary. In their own way Buddhists and Hindus do it... I'm sure others...
