Holder is Obama's top choice for attorney general

    Never mind that there was once a mother who risked her life in trying to bring her to a better life. Crossing very rough seas in an attempt to make it to Florida, their bank sank and one survivor, Elian, was rescued hanging on to a little float and was joined with his family as was his mother's wish. After several weeks of an embarrassing Castro, he demanded, found the boys father who was never really present in Elian's life, that Elian be returned. The US wouldn't even extradite criminals to Cuba and this young boy whose mother had wished a better life was forcibly removed in a very Nazi like kidnapping. Guns pointed in faces by men in riot gear, took Elian and sent him to Cuba where he remains as propaganda tool of Castro.

    Att. Holder was one of the most instrumental people on Janet Reno's staff who was one of the main planners who to get Elian and how to send him back.

    This man should not be AG. If you want an African American AG fine, but not him.

    Seems to me with the appointment attempts for Hillary, Holder, other DC old foggies that there is no change coming. Additionally, why doesn't Obama at least put a Hispanic to a AG? What is he afraid of?

    Appointing this man to AG basically just slaps the faces of the thousands who have made it to the US and those who drowned in their attempts. The man is evil.

    The mother had every right to risk her own life, but please don't try to turn her into a hero for risking her little boy's life. Regardless of what happened afterwards and the pro's and cons of the government decision, she had no right to take a child on a tiny boat on 'very rough seas' across a dangerous stretch of water.

    The irony is staggering. Supposedly anti-family liberals reunited Elian with his father. While the so-called pro-family conservatives wanted to destroy an already devastated family in pursuit of ideology.

    The right call was made. The family unit was respected over ideology. Holder may not be the best candidate for AG but the Elian case is not the issue to defeat his nomination.

The family unit was united was respected with someone wasn't even part of the family and much less back to a place that the US government has had issues with for five decades? We don't even send back a person who has committed murder there. Come on.

    That is what is called a non sequitar. Alberto's inability to do his job has nothing to do with the Elian case.

I was referring to the people here who wanted Alberto to get fired for things much less severe than what the Clinton Admin and Holder as one of the ring leaders did. And now you want people to express best wishes?

    Or, are you going to call us racist because we don't want him in the AG's spot. If you like the idea of people having the authority of breaking down doors with AR-15's in riot gear than go ahead have the idiot, but remember what you wish for as you should be careful.

    If we are going to have a person running the country who has no regard for a particular community and then take on another who could careless about his actions, then all I can say is don't start crying when they do come to Miami and are protested.

    BTW, Alberto is someone who should be praised instead of scrutinized.

    powderfinger, I don't understand your link. Are you trying to say that Elian's mother was justified in putting his life in danger at sea because men were going to point guns at him in Florida?

    The whole Elian thing was a travesty. The child should have been allowed to stay with his relatives in Florida, not be forcibly repatriated just because the father, who his wife left, came to the US. And the way in which it was done, was simply inexcusable.

    Personally, I'd rather he had gone for Napalitano. Mostly of course because I'm from Az, and getting rid of Napalitano would be a definite benefit to the state.

    Isn't Holder the guy who, as Deputy Attorney General, was the key person who made possible the pardon of fugitive billionaire Marc Rich in the final hours of the Clinton presidency?

    Holder has publicly apologized for what he said was a snap decision that he should have paid more attention to.

    He gave a recommendation for a Presidential pardon based on a snap decision that he didn't pay enough attention to? I can't say I knew anything about the guy before reading this article...but...jeeze. You'd think "Presidential pardon" and "snap decision" and "didn't pay attention to" wouldn't appear in the same sentence.

    Look Elian, like any child, should first be with his or her parents. Even if they live in an unpopular country. We evil liberals thought that he should be with his closest kin. While the other side wanted to make a political icon of the boy and keep him in the US.

    Fact is our treatment of Cuba for all these years is misplaced Cold War nonsense. We would have had a much more powerful influence on Cuba had we been open and doing business with them than by keeping them poor and afraid of us. Cubans have been victims of the cold war far too long. And maybe we needed to be thinking then, as now, about removing the desire for people to take insane trips across the water.

    I think we need to ignore this and get on with vetting this guy for real reasons.

    Here is the fact, whether you agree or disagree on the outcome of Elian, you can not possibly accept the method in which they came down to our neighborhood and the action that took place was planned by Holder.
