How can the Democrats be struggling for votes? Don't they control both houses of Congress? Aren't the Republicans irrelevant?

Sarge: I was asking the same question!

Sarge, skipthesong, the democrats are struggling because there is an election coming up in 2010. They would rather hold on to a cushy position, than support their party line.

I am really surprised this bill has so many supporter or even opponents since no one has read it except the nancy and the ones who wrote it.

Nasty Pelousy wants you in jail if you refuse to buy insurance. The Constitution? Bill of Rights? Forget em. The Democrat Party has waited decades for the chance to destroy America and they intend to do so.

American political system is unique. Unlike parliamentary systems (e.g. , Japan), the U.S. political system lacks the party discipline that a parliamentary government usually has. Since the head of state or president is elected separately from Congress, the Democratic Senators and Reps in this instance have no stake in the decision making process in making Obama the president. Their loyalty to him is not necessarily hermetically assured. So even if the healthcare bill fails to pass, President Obama will still be the president. If this had happened to the DJP on an important bill, PM Hatoyama would have resigned and called for new elections as soon as possible. The miracle about the U.S. government is that for years no one party can dominate the agenda regardless of the numbers they control in both houses. The wheels of legislation run like molasses on a cold winter day.

This is not about fixing America's current problems. By giving health care for all, we ensure our children can grow up healthy enough to properly lead us toward a positive future. How some can be so short-sighted as to not see that...honestly, there are just no words.

There is just no excuse either, Taka, for the neo-Nazi right-wing opposition to ensuring all Americans receive proper health care. I just thank Christ they are more like you and me than there are of them.

"How some can be so short-sighted as to not see that...honestly, there are just no words."

Sadly, you're dealing with the same people that think global warming "is a joke" and the earth is flat.

    "neo-Nazi right-wing"?

As usual, the totalitarians are on the Left.

By giving health care for all, we ensure our children can grow up healthy enough to properly lead us toward a positive future.

That's the sales pitch (or campaign promise, if you prefer). But America doesn't have a problem with the availability of health care, especially when it comes to children.

I have my own health insurance. Not provided by an employer, nor by the government. It's less than US$100/month. There's no need for government mandates or takeovers. It's not about care, it's about control. Always has been.
