This should be bloody obvious, but Chimpanzees are not, not, not pets. Not only are they dangerous wild animals (7x the strength of a man, one article claimed) but they are practically human in many aspects. Setting the morality of keeping a creature with that level of sentiance as a pet, consider that they have a full range of human emotions with massively decreased communication ability. You cannot reason with an angry chimpanzee, and he is not restrained by human societal norms.

Also, it probably does not need noting, but this is a massive tragedy for everyone involved: the woman who was horribly mauled, the woman who had to commit violence against, culminating in the loss of her "child", and Travis himself, who deserves to be refered to by name.

I think Triumvere has said it all.

Yeah, it was an excellent post. A chimp can literally rip a person's limbs off, and have.

This is the price we pay for keeping them as pets and in zoos.

First post should read: "setting aside the morality..."

That poor woman whose hands were chewed off and face ripped off is not doing OK as her sister-in-law claimed. Even if they can reattach hands and graft parts of your body onto your face, you will never regain your life. A few years ago In Southern California, a couple had a pet chimp and put him into a sanctuary for primates and one day went to visit him. The chimps in another cage got out and chewed the man's face off and ripped his testicles and penis off too. People should not be allowed to keep any wild animals in the homes on land period. Who do these folks think they are? Tarzan and Jane??
