Befroe those with BDS get at this, a few things made this better than Katrina.
First, the Feds were watching more closely. This is a good thing, learned from Katrina. Second, Louisiana had a strong governor in Jindal than Blanco. Last time, petty political infighting between the Gov and the mayor of New Orleans cost the people. I think Nagin finally saw that a no none sense guy was in charge and he did the right thing. Third: evacuation was ordered, and this time people paid attention. Not saying that the last time it was their fault for staying, but look here at JT on the recent Emergecny Drills. Some posters thought that it was too militaristic and a waste. Same thing probably with the people in NO before Katrina. They have gone through storms before and thought that they could ride it out. I know when I am back in the states and every Wednesday in my home town the civil defense sirens go off at noon. You get used to it. But when they go off at 8pm to tell you of an impending tornado, you then begin to get serious. I imagine the similar situation happend with Katrina. People got used to the hurricanes and got compacent. Now, a better sense of urgency prevails and they actually heeded the order to evacuate.
Good job on Louisiana

Current reports are saying Gustav is weakening and the levees are holding. I hope Louisiana gets through this with a minimum of damage and human injuries. They have already been through enough.

Better to make a big deal out of it and have people safe than what happened with Katrina.

This is real good news ,Gustav becomes reduced from category 4 to 2,levees keep water back and really much damage prevented.
I think may be new orleans, need dutch tech help in holding back water in future.
The mother of all hurricanes did become reality after all,as prediced by Nagin.
