The is sad news indeed.
Unfornately not surprising to me.
I'm a big fan of the Aviation Industry. I watch a lot of YouTube videos about pilots and planes. If you keyword search Russian Pilots on YouTube you'll find some horrific videos. I watched one video where the passengers were screaming for dear life cause the pilot ignored the conditions of the runway and tried to take off. Not making this up, see for yourself.

A little less military spending and more money spent on aviation safety is a good idea.

Hockey and boxing are the only spots I watch. RIP hockey players, you’ll be sorely missed.

NetNinja- while it's true that Russian air travel is terrible, your explanation of that video is very misleading. There were no screams and the pilot didn't "attempt" to take off. He DID take off. Successfully and with no incident from the airport in Hong Kong. With clearance from Hong Kong traffic controllers.

One of the deceased was a family friend, so I woke up to this news direct from home. It has been a very bad summer for hockey.

As if three NHL players passing away over the summer wasn't bad enough for us hockey fans but now this ? An entire team ?!?! A team that was on its way to open up their campaign, a powerhouse team full of great and talented players alike. It really has been a dark summer for the hockey world, saddest off-season in history, may they all R.I.P.

NetNinja,
I agree with hoserfella, I didn't hear any passengers screaming and pilots don't ignore traffic control. A successful take off in a bad storm.
And it has been a bad year for hockey and hockey fans - three in North America and now this. Condolences to any who knew the players, crew, or coaches.

I wouldn't blame Russian pilots so much as Russian planes, which are often old, outdated Turpelovs (however it's spelled) modified to carry passengers. I don't know much about the Yak planes, but obviously there was a problem with this one. Hockey players or not, this kind of thing is always a tragedy. RIP to the victims.

RIP, not that i follow or care about ice hockey but how terrible, and to think this could happen at anytime to any team who travels by air.

Very sad story, my prayers go out to the hockey team, the flight crew and their families. It is my wish that the families will find comfort during these tragic days.
