My opinion - I hope that Snowden gets to safe haven. Only then can proper discussions about what he did begin.

Contentious IceLand Citizenship and Bobby Fischer:

In 1975, Fischer declined to defend his title when he could not reach agreement with FIDE over the conditions for the match. He became more reclusive and did not play competitive chess again until 1992, when he won an unofficial rematch against Spassky. The competition was held in Yugoslavia, which was then under a United Nations embargo.[1][2][3] This led to a conflict with the U.S. government, which was also seeking income tax from Fischer on his match winnings. Fischer never returned to his native country (USA). In his later years, Fischer lived in Hungary, Germany, the Philippines, Japan, and Iceland. Iceland also jailed its bankers and restored their economy by bailing out the people hurt by the banker's crimes. It also has the oldest democracy in the world still functioning. And yes it still hunts whales.

It's going to have to be Iceland or bust for Snowden. From where he sits in Moscow, Iceland is the only viable option considering probably no commercial airline will be willing to fly him out of Moscow so he will have to fly via someone's private business jet and the only likely destination within range (of one tank of gas) that he can reach without leaving international airspace is Iceland.

My opinion, I hope the guy freezes. The only discussion I would like to see happen is Snowden in an interrogation room with a lawyer and a prosecutor filing espionage and a slew of other charges against him.

I think all Americans who live abroad soon realize that the US government doesn't really give a shyt about us unless there is some political or military gain or purpose. You are on your own.

Although what Mr. Snowden did is probably illegal and detrimental to the US, I question the competency of the NSA in giving him access to such materials that can so easily be divulged.

To put things in perspective, the ruling coalition in Iceland has 38 members in its parliament. The Left-Green has 7, the Bright Future Party has 6, and the Pirate Party has 3. Neither of the ruling parties or the other minority parties appear to support the proposal to give Snowden Icelandic citizenship.

The proposal to grant Snowden citizenship received limited support when it was discussed Thursday - the last day before summer recess. Six members of minority parties were in favor out of Parliament's 63 members.

That doesn't look too promising for Snowden.

People seem to be living there pretty well without freezing, despite your best wishes to the contrary. Shows how shallow people can be, I guess. If he's in an interrogation room, I hope it's right along side the TRUE criminals, like bush, cheney, and Obama and the current admin for trampling on the constitution, breaking the laws they swear to uphold, abusing human rights while decrying other nations for doing so, etc. What Snowden did is not even close in terms of the illegalities, and it's fun to watch people like yourself support the former US government in doing far more illegal activities, then in utter embarrassment decry Obama for doing the same, then insist despite the current government engaging in similar behaviour as the last saying they are correct. Again with the flip-flopping ("I'm not embarrassed! No wait, I AM embarrassed" -- your words!).

Anyway, glad some nations still have a good head on their shoulders, and here's hoping Snowden reveals further information on illegal US programs from a safe haven like Iceland or Ecuador (and he will be kept safe in one of those or another nation).

Of course not! No other government knew about the U.S.' covert espionage, availed themselves of the information gathered by it, or ever does any spying on friends or enemies. How could you even suggest it?

I see from 68 members on the Icelandic Gov to 38 what is it ? , BTW the more I dig into ANY countries CIA, KGB Mossad etc. Those behind the scenes so called " security" or "safety" or "we are looking after you agencies", history all over the world for thousands of years have shown those people are anything BUT looking after you. Actually, while he's at it, I hope he also exposes the Europeans and hypocrite behavior to what's going on and NOT be selective in what he releases to the public of only US material. Because if he doesn't, then we know for sure, he's just being bias and selective about what intel he wants to release. Sorry, but I'm calling you out! Snowden DID NOT graduate HS. He got his GED at a community college, the BS is when people like you go out and start dishing out disinformation!

Edward Snowden grew up in North Carolina and Maryland. In an interview with British newspaper The Guardian, he said he never completed high school, but studied computing at a Maryland community college and obtained a General Educational Development diploma.

Let's keep this short and to the point. Thank you about telling me about my own ancestry, fact of the matter is, that Hitler did want to expand Germany to as far east as Moscow and beyond and one of his dreams was to infiltrate and encourage American Germans communities that were sympathetic to the Reich cause to plant seeds to influence them and hopefully embracing it, nurturing it and allowing the ideologies to spread, eventually indoctrinating America and Americans and hopefully overthrow the government.
