Probably the most important story on this site today, even if nobody realizes it. Congratulations to the people of Iceland for standing up for themselves against the bullying of Britain and the Netherlands.

Don't know that I'd agree that its the most important story today, but its certainly big.

If Gordon Brown hadn't tried to impose an extortionate interest rate the matter might have been solved by now. Of course, Brown will avoid all responsibility as usual.

Icelander could set the example to be followed in this new world economy that is coming.

I don't understand why Iceland is being called "tiny". In Europe it's bigger than Hungary, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland and Portugal. These countries are not really considered as "tiny".

@LostinNagaoya - that is right, and why this is important. It's the first time any country has stood up to the neo-liberal mafia economic system that has bankrupted the world, and they did it unanimously. The usual divide and conquer propaganda had no effect, and there were no right-wing vs. left-wing, serf vs. serf battles in Iceland. They knew who their real enemy was, and refused to let their wealth be stolen from them. The question is was it just a one-off or is it going to spread elsewhere as people start to wake up.

"The question is was it just a one-off or is it going to spread elsewhere as people start to wake up" The real question is is how much will it cost Iceland to borrow now?
