Oh No!! The liberals will be up in arms. One state tried to be a bit tougher by allowing law enforcement to check but no way would that go over. Couldn't have law enforcement infringing on criminals rights.

finally an accurate description by the AP. It's not anti-immigration, it's protecting legal immigration.

Ironic.
Republicans are always "anti" big government and against anyone trying to break the US Constitution....yet, when it comes to immigration and going against citizenship based on birth (an amendment in the US constitution(.....they are in for it.

so let's clarify again, it's anti-illegal-immigration, not anti-immigration.

I thought it was bogus how Republicans drop down the Dream Act....it would have helped those immigrants who came here as children (growing up and going to American schools) to have easier access to citizenship......

Attend college or the military to help citizenship, that looked completely reasonable. Only when the Republican party is no longer in existence will America stop circling the drain.

Attend college or the military to help citizenship, that looked completely reasonable" The military thing is acceptable, its what my Grandfather did at the same time going through all the legal routes to get my mother, grandmother, and her siblings legalized. Anything short of that is a NO! As for attending college, I paid out of state and in fact while in the military I paid a heavy price for college classes even though I could have taken classes very cheaply in Illinois with all that was offered through grants and what not. Why should they get in-state tuition and what if you legalize them and they then drop out?
Sorry bud, but my family came in by a boat and went through all legal routes. What was good for them should be good for the next. Unless, you just simply like taking the US citizenship (which many native born upper class Anglos do I believe) for granted.
it would have helped those immigrants who came here as children (growing up and going to American schools) to have easier access to citizenship....." There is a process that my family went through and the same process my wife would go through should we decide to live in the US ever again. Why should it be different for anyone else?

You say that, but you misunderstand the reasons. Conservatives prefer to follow the constitution. And not just the written word, but also the spirit of the constitution. In other words, what the framers intended the constitution to mean. Thats the problem see. Because the framers never intended to grant anyone who can get here citizenship. They never envisioned that at all. And thus, conservatives view it as being a perversion of the constitution. You can feel differently, but thats simply the way people feel about it.
lol, the Republican party must be destroyed eh? So, higher taxes on everyone, more and more government controls, death panels and rationed care these are all things that make America better then eh? Americans obviously disagree with you, as they thanked the Dumbocrats for all the crap they've forced down Americas throat over the last 2 years. Now the Republicans have regained control of the house. The senate will likely fall in 2012, as will the Presidency.

As a country falls apart it is the government of the people, by the people, for the people, (notice it didn't say money?) that must take control back from the Corporate Cleptocracy of America and the top 5% that controls 40% of resources or some such ridiculous number. It's probably higher. It won't be the billionaires and millionaires that demand continuous tax cuts while they sold out their own industries throughout the country to get a $4 hair dryer from China. These are citizens of America?
On the other hand as long as the US remains better than another country there will always be immigration for a chance at a better life. Might as well allow those who are making a commitment to the country to be full partners as citizens ie college and military to counter the current Americans who sold off their citizenship to China to live in debt forever.
Influx of new opportunity being balanced out by the debtor traitors and charlatans consumers who are no longer qualified to be called citizens. At some point it will even out.
Irony quadruple score

The folks on the left need to get realistic about immigration. A country's immigration system serves a purpose (otherwise just let anyone and everyone in the country).
The folks on the right need to get realistic about immigration. Simply saying deport all illegals now isnt practical, and neither is building an expensive wall.
If people want to amend the Constitution they are entitled to try. Personally, I think the government should hit the companies that employ illegals severely. Give them hard fines...put these companies out of business...set an example and a deterant.

I was under the impression that any foreign national could enter the US armed forces and that alone provided a pathway to applying for and obtaining a green card already. Or am I wrong?

Tough enforcement of immigration rules is long overdue!

There was a story awhile back about a guy who decided he had had enough of being illegal. He could no longer wait. So, he left his wife and kids behind, moved back to his country of origin, that he hadn't seen since he was just a little kid, and worked to get a legal visa. He succeeded, and once again is in the US, this time legally. I'm making an assumption here, but I think he's planning to wait 5 years, and apply for citizenship as well. Now thats the right way to do it. He's the kind of guy I cheer for. Someone who decides he wants to be here legally, and goes out of his way, to do what he needs to do to make it happen.
