how on earth can you shoot dead 2 year old children?

In front of their parents no less. It was an attack of exceptional barbarism carried out in a very personal way. This will be a trauma for the Indian people, no strangers to anonymous acts of terrorism, on par with 9/11 for Americans.

That will heighten calls for swift and merciless revenge, already being heard. Such a response is understandable but I hope patience will prevail as the investigation unfolds, wherever it might lead.

The perpetrators chose to do this knowing full well they would meet their own violent end (one is in custody). The "cult of death" is what is so unsettling about Islamic fundamentalism; it's hard to fight an enemy which does not behave rationally (as understood in the West).

The rest of us should find ways to support India. Many of those who survived will likely be out of work. Foreign investment and tourism will certainly suffer and the latter will likely plummet. I'm thinking of booking a trip there myself for exactly that reason.

In the story it said the 2 year old was taken from the building by an employee it didnt say the child was shoot.. Where did you find the part about a 2 year old dying?

Their son, Moshe, who turned 2 on Saturday, was scooped up by an employee Thursday as she fled the building.

Trgic mini-war is over, Bush's assurances may be sincere, Pak may be blameless, all that aside, India must strengthen its home-security and set-up permanent infrastructure, sooner the better.

The 2-year old was from North London's post on another thread. It was a six-year old I read had been shot in front of her parents. But that's an unconfirmed source so I shouldn't have used it. Sorry.

    Pak may be blameless

It seems the Pakistani security forces have been directing hotheads to India. They've long viewed such types as just such a resource rather than a security threat.

I feel very sorry for all of the victims both killed and the remaining survivors of this bloody masacre. I hope the Indian government joins forces with the US, Pakistan etc..to fight against these idiot terrorists. They need to be hunted down dead or alive. We have no more borders and Pakistan but be ready to help hunt down these animals. Guantanamo base in Cuba must not be closed, and Obama should not even think of closing it and letting all of these terrorist go free. America does not need Miami,NYC,SFO, et...to become the next Mumbai. Hunt down the terrorist before they even get a chance to attack us!!!

I like the scenario that Mumbai just goes back to business as usual immediately as if nothing had happened; while the authority goes for full scale in eradication of terrorism.

My sincere condolences to all the people hurt in and by this attack, and I do indeed hope that along with all of those already killed, those who helped plan the attack are caught and face trial. This is going to take a long time to recover from, and for some it will take the rest of their lives, which is very sad indeed.

"As the people of the world’s largest democracy recover from these attacks, they can count on the people of world’s oldest democracy to stand by their side,”

While Bush does indeed mean well, I can now see where TooFarGone quoted his incorrect statement the other day. The oldest and longest running democracy distinction goes to Isle of Man. Greece gets the award for having invented Democracy, though after quite a bit of Ottoman rule they don't get any awards for keeping it. Bush himself gets an award for destroying the any actual meaning of the term. Just needed to set the records straight on those things, since it was in the article (the quotation, that is).

RAMALLAH, West Bank – Muslims from the Middle East to Britain and Austria condemned Sunday the Mumbai shooting rampage by suspected Islamic militants as senseless terrorism, but also found themselves on the defensive once again about bloodshed linked to their religion.

Some Muslims are criminals. However, this does not justify demonizing all Muslims any more than the violent acts of a few Indian Hindus, perpetrated against their Muslim compatriots, should be used to suggest that Hinduism as a faith promotes rape and murder.
