Very good news. Now I'd like to see the U.S. and Iran reestablish diplomatic relations and then hopefully Iran will help to destroy Islamic State. The fly in the ointment, of course, is Israel, which Iran won't recognize.

A deal will still face scrutiny by the U.S. Congress, controlled by opposition Republicans who are skeptical of the Obama administration’s overtures to a country that has been an enemy since Iranian revolutionaries stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979.

Why does this article give the impression the revolutionaries attacked the US embassy out of the blue for not legitimate reason, as if it was some irrational hatred of the US. The US had caused the removal of a democratically elected leader, to replace him by a brutal dictator. After the revolutionaries got rid of the dictator, they realized the US was trying to reintroduce a puppet dictator. That is why they attacked the embassy, if anything the Iranians are the ones that should be skeptical of the other.

Hopefully now they can move on, and possibly strive to have a Middle East free of nuclear weapons...

I remember seeing a documentary on this. They shredded the documents at the embassy, but the Iranian students sat and put them back together one by one so they had all the evidence. Shredders have been redesigned since to not just shred is strips.

As for the agreement - great news. Iran have a very young population, and the younger generation are far more pro-western liberal than the older. The more we bring Iran back into the global community, the better it will be for all of us in the long term.

Change you can believe in...

I was going to tune into Fox "news" to hear the insane version of events but to be fair the talking points will be vomited up here shortly and the hate and the bile would drag me down.

Suffice to say the only people opposing this historic rapprochement are the fundies in Iran, Israel and the GOP Asylum. Bollocks to 'em.

But now Iran can no longer blame everything on the Great Satan and has to own up to itself if Iranian rockets land on Israeli soil

"Iran’s hatred of the United States, a defining trait of its ruling system, was on display only last week, when it marked the end of the Ramadan fasting month with an annual day of protests, with crowds chanting “Death to Israel” and “Death to America”.

What's up with that?

"Tehran does not recognise Israel and supports its enemies."

What's up with that?

Well, that's because Libs rarely and I mean, rarely think about the overall ramifications of their actions, maybe that's why when Fox points that out they scurry like roaches avoiding the light the way they like to avoid the truth.

As well as every Sunni nation. But if Iran is THAT stupid and thinks that one day they will try to destroy Israel, that is the day Iran will most likely cease to exist.

I was surprised that we got so much. The Arak facility was important and it will be modified and monitored with the West jointly handling the modification. I was also surprised that Iran agreed to let the IAEA inspect military facilities, and simply suspending the sanctions rather than eliminating them means a the U.S. is one veto away from putting them back into place. Iran also has to ship out their spent fuel, a red line they held onto for years. Iran also must verify and cooperate directly with the IAEA in order to have other sanctions eliminated.

I think we got a lot more than the initial reports were saying.

The Saudis are angry because Iran is actively fighting ISIS and Al Qaida.

Both ISIS and Al Qaida are allies of Saudi Arabia.

"Allies" is the wrong term. It's more of a Not-in-my-back-yard/exportation kind of situation.

I was surprised that we got so much.

Actually we didn't get anything, which didn't surprise me at all.

The Arak facility was important and it will be modified and monitored with the West jointly handling the modification.

As if that would stop Iran to hold on to their promise which if history is any indication isn't worth much at all.

I was also surprised that Iran agreed to let the IAEA inspect military facilities, and simply suspending the sanctions rather than eliminating them means a the U.S. is one veto away from putting them back into place.

Anyone believing that Iran would allow inspectors unfettered and unrestricted access at anytime is living on pure delusion. It will never happen.

Iran also has to ship out their spent fuel, a red line they held onto for years. Iran also must verify and cooperate directly with the IAEA in order to have other sanctions eliminated.

Yeah, ok. The only good thing about this is, if Iran even gives off the indication that it will strike or even makes the move concretely to attack Israel and the Sunni Arabs, that country will be a smoking pile of memory. So now we have essentially a ME arms race and now the ball is in Iran's court how they will shape history from here on is there next choice.

I think we got a lot more than the initial reports were saying.

I think we have nothing and the reports don't want to admit that.

Others would disagree, calling them a straight up terrorist organization.

Which they are.

This is a good, if incomplete, arrangement.

On another note, it is fun to yet again watch the Republican party put patriotism before partisanship in theri pathetic attempt to out whine each other about how bad this is.

Popcorn time.

What choice does the world have right now?

Iran is the only Arab Country that has the best capabilities to get the most heavily involved at fighting Islamic State and continuing sanctions simply inhibits Irans ability to do this. Iraq needs their help and this is the only way.

And Benjamon Netanyahu needs to Cool His Jets with all this "Iran = Armageddon" talk and furthermore, Netanyahu needs to contribute more to Peace in the Middle East instead of Fear Mongering the Oil Salivating Republicans in Congress.

And don't think for a moment that these sanctions on Iran aren't about Oil. The 2nd Largest Oil reserves are contained in Iran. 1/4 of the world oil comes out of Iran (or it used too) and remember when Gas was on .98 cents a gallon? Follow me here? Wonder why Oil SHOT UP after Bush & Cheney invaded Iraq & slapped heavy sanctions on Iran and it had nothing to do with the The Ayatollah coming to Power - It was The Ayatollah telling that Oil Gang known as OPEC where they can shove it because he wasn't gonna play their game.

Look I'm just a dumb Country Boy from Texas, but I can tell ya'll Sanctions on Iran are useless, senseless, and fruitless.

Honestly, we need Iran. We need their support at fighting ISIS and I don't want to see Young Americans die senselessly against the most Vicious Islamic Militants the world has ever seen, but if this enemy can be fought by another Muslim Faction that knows them better than we do and if lifting sanctions opens the Arab Spring - then by God do it.

Deal has time limit; wonder what happens later a decade from now if Iran decides they'd make nukes after all

Anyhow, now it's just North Korea left. And they definitely have nukes and actively working on improvements, and they're not averse to using 'em. But they don't care about sanctions, while constantly trying to provoke South Korea.
