“If Christ were on earth today, undoubtedly he would hoist the banner of justice and love for humanity to oppose warmongers, occupiers, terrorists and bullies the world over,” Ahmadinejad said

I can't see a thing wrong with this statement. I would think that Christ would want peace.

The Israeli ambassador to London condemned the speech as a “bogus message of good will.” Ple-e-ease, be real. Just because Ahmadinejad said it, it has to be bogus.

I'd like to see all leaders come out and say the same thing.

Maybe we might have peace. Hell, maybe we could even see peace between Isreal and Palestine. < :-)

It is not in Israel's interest to promote peace in the middle east let alone with the Palestinians. Ahmadinejad for all his lunatic ramblings my be the only leader that truly recognizes this situation. His charge that Israel never negotiate in good faith may not be so far fetch.

Overall peace to the region would require Israel to live by a whole new set of rules. They most certainly would lose their enormous funding from the US and the ability to continue to make claims on Palestinian land significantly curtailed.

The political economy of peace on the Palestinian/Israeli boarder may be driven by other realities far more insidious than meets the eye.

That guy should not be delivering a Christmas message in a British production. He doesn't support our (the West) ideals or share some of the views we care about most. I have no idea what nitwit decided to put him in front of the camera, but he needs to be removed from his job immediately. I'm sure we can think of a few billion others who would be a more appropriate choice. It's just astounding to me that some people thought it would be appropriate to bring this guy into British homes on Christmas.

If a message from Bush were televised in Iran on Ramadan, what would you say?

Why? They dont believe in Jesus' existance......

Who needs facts? Just make anything up that you like in order to sow hate.

Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet. They just don't think he was the messiah. There is another group whose beliefs are much the same: THE JEWS.

How many faces can a man have?

I read an English version of Mao's Little Red Book, it too looked good on paper. reality is a bit different. At least Ahmadinejad and The Pope have one thing in common; they hate gays.

The Muslim president doesn’t ... mention Israel, despite his past calls to wipe it out.

Why does this reporter repeat this lie, Ahmadinejad never did such a thing, and he does not deny the holocaust.

A leading British Jewish body said it was appalled, responding "If Christ were on earth today, undoubtedly we would crucify him again, immediately."

But seriously, how can the Israeli ambassador criticize the Iranian regime, when his own regime has an infinitely more sordid history of human rights abuse.

"Ties with Britain were further strained in 2007 when Iran held 15 British sailors and marines prisoner for 13 days."

So reward their Holocaust-denying, homophobic, rabidly anti-Semitic leader, a ringleader in the 1979 takeover of the American embassy in Teheran - an act of war - with a slot on prime time television to insult your nation and its spiritual heritage, something that would occasion riots, death threats and deaths in his country and those sympathetic to its aims.

Lefty twits in the media aiding and abetting a tyrant?

    They can't resist.

  • 0

    sabiwabi

adamantine, Ahmadinejad is not a holocaust denier, he is not anti-Semitic, and he was not a in the 1979 takeover of the American embassy in Teheran. The ringleader's photo does show a similar hair style and beard, but that's where the similarities stop. What I find most amazing about this entire thing is how some people are so opposed to Ahmadinejad's message of peace. They try so hard to control the exposure the public gets of this man, with their constant lies and "mistranslations" (more lies), they just can't stand it when he slips through their blockade and delivers his message.

SuperLib: "He doesn't support our (the West) ideals or share some of the views we care about most."

Which are.... what, exactly? Even in 'Western' nations, where Christmas is the biggest and most important event, it is agreed the 'holiday' has strayed far from its origins. So what values is it that the man does not support? Santa Claus coming to give kids a bunch of presents? Companies insisting you buy their products and who scoff at Christianity? Come on! Show me a Christian who celebrates Christmas as the birth of Christ and I'll show you 100 people who don't. What's more, I'll point out all the facts as to why it was impossible that Christ was born on this day.

adaydream said it best in the second post on this thread -- the man made some very valid points and there is nothing wrong with his statements. I think those who are angry are angry simply because it came from the man in front of the cameras.

Ahmadinejad: I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go hang some homosexuals from cranes, send some money to terrorist groups to kill innocents in Lebanon, and stone some women to death.

Smithinjapan: Merry Christmas to you, too!

Ahmadinejad is not a holocaust denier

Then why did he invite neo-Nazi David Duke to be a keynote speaker at an Iranian state-sponsored Holocaust-denial meeting in 2006? The unholy alliance continues.

It is not in Israel's interest to promote peace in the middle east let alone with the Palestinians.

There's never peace with Muslim Arabs. Only hudnas. Learn something about Islam.

Lefty twits in the media aiding and abetting a tyrant

Yes, Ahmadinejad is the new Che. Should be seeing him on t-shirts of first-world leftists pretty soon.

SuperLib: I'm finally off work and on my way home. Merry Christmas to you, too. A shame to see you misdirect your impressions of someone onto them as you do, but we're all guilty of that from time to time. You didn't really address any of the points I made, but do go home and celebrate what's left of your commercial holiday. Or wait, does Japan honestly understand about Christmas and Ahmadinejad was entirely wrong in his message?

    Haha... rhetorical.

But seriously, I do wish you all a Merry Christmas (or happy holidays, if that makes you feel better), free from bullying, war, and pain. Find someone or something you love and enjoy.

If Christ were alive today, Ahmadinejad would want him dead in accordance to the laws of his religion. But he would get smacked up bad by Jesus daddy. I mean that is totally the wrong guy to mess around with.

No, Muslims have quite a lot of respect for Jesus, unlike those who crucified him and who continue till this day to spit at Christian church officials.

Ahmadinejad is not a holocaust denier Then why did he invite neo-Nazi David Duke to be a keynote speaker at an Iranian state-sponsored Holocaust-denial meeting in 2006?

The conference was to discuss the holocaust, not to deny it. Everyone was invited, even you.

But he would get smacked up bad by Jesus daddy.

Yeah, the New Testament is chock full of Jesus smacking people up. That was the message of Christ.

And just what would he say about Jihad?

That it is misunderstood by many Muslims and most Christians?
And then go on to say all war is wrong?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jihad

The term "Jihad" used without any qualifiers is generally understood in the West to be referring to holy war on behalf of Islam.[5] In broader usage and interpretation, the term has accrued both violent and non-violent meanings. It can simply mean striving to live a moral and virtuous life, spreading and defending Islam as well as fighting injustice and oppression, among other things.[7] The relative importance of these two forms of jihad is a matter of controversy.

Islamic military jurisprudence focuses on regulating the conditions and practice of Jihad as-sayf, the only form of warfare permissible under Islamic law,

Could explain why Iran has not made war on anyone in a long long time, despite being wedged between hostile foreign troops for six years.

I have a feeling I could slap some of you upside the head with proof all day every day, and you will still point at shadows and swear the behavior on your own side is completely justified. Your side can stab innocent people dead and you will just shrug it off as a mistake, but if the other guy so much as twitches you will scream "foul!" Its truly pathetic and embarrassing. Iran has attacked no one in the modern age. How about your side? One country has troops literally ALL OVER THE GLOBE. But people act like Iran is the great Satan about to take over the world.

Simple thought experiment for the wikipedia enthusiasts here obviously too lazy to read any history relevant to the issue:

Would a Jew - or even a Christian - be allowed to deliver to the Iranian people a televised message at the height of Ramadan in which he (even the most starry-eyed "progressives" among us know a female representative would be completely out of the question) declared that were Muhammed alive today he would side against Iran?

A fascinating question since so many were against Ahmadinejad’s message being broadcast. A lot of people here on the same level of Iran on this yet STILL point a finger. They don't seem to notice the three fingers pointing back at themselves, eh?

Any Iranian "message of peace" delivered overseas or via international media is clearly meant for gullible foreign lefties. Back in Iran they are shutting down human rights centres.

"BBC Tehran Office suspended 24.12.08 16:35 The Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Orientation said that BBC Tehran Office was suspended, the Iranian Mehr news agency reported.

“It was a long time that BBC functioned in Tehran. However BBC Tehran Office has been suspended because its own mistakes,” Muhammad Huseyn Saffar Herandi, the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Orientation, said on Dec. 24. Foreign news agencies should be attentive in their activities, he added. Herandi said that everybody is responsible for their mistakes and measures will be taken toward them in line with the Code of Administrative Violations.

What as that got to do with peace?

As usual, you are all over the place with unconnected statements. And further discrediting yourself by pluralizing the singular. One office of one human rights group was closed. And its STILL got nothing to do with peace!

"Iran leader's Christmas message decries bullies"

"...if Jesus were alive, he would oppose “bullying, ill-tempered and expansionist powers“—an apparent reference to the U.S. and its allies."

"According to a transcript released in advance, Ahmadinejad says most of the world’s problems stem from leaders who have turned against religion. The Muslim president doesn’t refer to rival nations or leaders by name..."

Like his Leftist admirers and enablers in the West, Ahmadinejad is unable or unwilling to tell you what he truly believes in or stands for.

Instead, he denounces in deliberately vague terms those nations, forms of governance and systems of commerce that he believes prevent the creation of a totalitarian system he has alluded to elsewhere, before audiences sympathetic to his radical religious beliefs.

adamantine--You seem to be taking this all rather personal despite the vague references. Seems like the guy must have hit you pretty close to the mark.

I remind you again that the United States now occupies two countries one on either side of Iran. Yet, are there any Iranian troops outside of Iran?

Yeah, he has hit you very close to the mark. There was no need to be specific at all.

Interesting that you get your info from an Azerbaijani news site and I cannot find anything about this anywhere else, not even from the BBC site of all places! I mean, it was just their office that was allegedly closed!

I did find a piece on the hardships of being a BBC correspondent in Iran though:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/newswatch/ukfs/hi/newsid4820000/newsid4828400/4828446.stm

I am still kicking this around. But since it has nothing to do with the warmongers, occupiers, or terrorists that Ahmadinejad mentioned, I guess it must be throwing the bully remark back at him?

You might be shocked, but I am more concerned about what countries do outside their borders than inside, and since Iran is not doing much outside their borders, I am more worried about the ones who have troops everywhere. You know, the warmongers and the occupiers? As for support for terrorism, good luck finding someone not guilty of that.

But all these thin assaults on Iran just isn't doing anyone any good. There are real reasons to oppose Iran, and you adamantine, are making a mockery of them and us at the same time.

There was an interesting comic in the funnies that I've read recently. It said, "The problem with wishing for world peace is that once we get it, we'll do anything, even kill, to keep it."

One persons ideology of peace is not the same for the others. Its a two way street. Ahmadenejad thinks world peace is under the path of Islam, and the "West" thinks world peace is freedom of choice and human rights. Now then, how on earth can we achieve world peace if one thinks it has complete religious precidence over the other?

You still have a grudge against the Roman Empire? It is finished you know.

Seriously, you have to stop blaming Jews for everything. The the promotion of the freedom to practice whatever religion you would like is one of the best methods decrie bullies. I wonder if Iran's "leader" thinks calls for the deaths of people you disagree with would be considered bullying? I would imagine Salman Rushdie would think so. I do too.
