I think the sanctions will work. They should be given time to work.

The headline seems misleading, the word "retaliation" is needed to clarify the word "threaten".

Iran's biggest weakness is their pride. It is larger than anything else. Yesterday Turkey even questioned whether Iran is Islamic as they have said and done nothing to encourage Assad to be less harsh towards the Syrian people.
Even if they want to stop international pressure on them, their pride would probably never let them admit it.

The good people of Iran are terrified of those in power, just like Cuba, North Korea etc...

Actually, I agree with you on this.
I'm sure I've heard this before.

I think the sanctiions are starting to have an effect and everyone knows that for a fact.

This is one of the reason, the Mullahs and Iranian leaders want to have nuclear weapon. The sword has been replace by nuclear capability as weapon of choice in order to bully and advance their fundamental belief. It will be a sad story, when you play with fire too often; you will get burned. That is where Iran is heading.

paulinusa, the sanctions are having an effect on Irani infrastructure and Iranian people's lives, yes, but the nuclear program is to most people there untouchable, non-negotiable.
The enemy (USA, Israel, UN) is painted large, so for average folks it's easy, ie the least we can do, grin some more and bear a little harder. Besides, China and Russia are pretty big markets for us.

PS Just trying to get inside the Iranian psyche.

The only ones to use Nuclear Weapons was the United States.. I believe they will never be used again.. I base this theory on...the Americans never dreamt there would be the kind of destruction and lasting affects these two Nuclear weapons created on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, We all know there are dumb people running governments around the World , but they are not stupid.

Any one who thinks embargo's or what ever will stop Islamic fundamentalists from wanting to eliminate the infidels is living in a dream land. Its the same war that has been going on from the days recorded in the Bible Old Testament when they didn't have oil, so how can we think its about material things or that those material things are going to have any real effect on this situation.

I think a better headline would read, "Iran continues to attack Israel via Hamas/Hezbollah on a daily basis, threatens to attack more if Israel responds."

Bgood41 and scoobydoo, we have to be very careful with the blanket word 'fundamentalist'. It seems there are two opposing groups of rival fundamentalists, Sunni (Wahabi, alQaida, Salafi) vs. Shia (Iran, Hezbollah etc.).
Perhaps the only thing they can agree on is who the enemy is, so repetiton of the name of the enemy may well be their only unifying mantra. In other words they need a viable enemy to patch over internal rifts and keep them from each other's throats. Thus is the stage set for tragedy.

Go ahead Iran/NK. You get one shot, then you suffer total destruction in response. "Small dogs bark often, the big dog barks once."

why target their nuclear facilities? just destroy their oil infrastructure. much softer target and not much they can do without money.
