Go ahead, stop the oil flow, knuckleheads.

Oil is one commodity that the US (and other industrialized countries) are willing to go to war over. Iran should be very cautious about making these kind of threats.

I'm guessing all of the above posters are Americans? Can one of your gents explain why they can't have a nuke but you guys can? Also, what makes you the world police? Bases all over the world, spending a trillion dollars a year on those bases while your country back at home crumbles under debt?!

My above comment regarding this is neutral. I stated under what conditions the US is willing to attack/subvert another country.

US is importing most of oil from Saudi. FYI

This will be a real test for President Obama. Price of gasoline is going up for everyone, including Japan. What will Japan do? The USA needs to just let Iran do whatever it wants to force the world to accept it responsibility to protect the world's economy even if it is based on oil. The question that really needs to be asked in Iran is: "Are you better off now, than you were 10 years ago?"

@Gerard van Schip: I am not an American, but I for one, am getting tired of Iran's threats.

If the Iranians close off the strait, how many oil-producing nations will be affected? Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain, Qatar, eastern Saudi Arabia and part of the UAE. How many international oil and other firms will be affected?

    Also:

"We have not stopped there... we are seeking to use our defence capabilities in open waters," Jafari added as forces under his command prepared to launch the naval phase of the 10-day Great Prophet-6 exercise, which lasts until Friday.

Media reported the Guards will launch surface-to-sea missiles on Tuesday.

So far, during the drills, the Guards have launched a range of ballistic missiles that Iran says are able to hit Israel and US bases in the region.

"This means that should the enemy try to pose a threat against the Islamic republic from outside the Strait of Hormuz, we will have the power to retaliate in kind. This strategy is now on our agenda," said Jafari.

I honestly think this is an open challenge from Iran against the sanctions being enforced not only by the US, but by the UN. If and when Iran will start attacking the US bases, the Americans will not be the only ones affected, but also the country where the US base is in. Is Iran really willing to wage war on a global scale?

Actually no I believe the US imports most of it's supplies from Venezuela, Mexico and various other sources and is not that reliant on Saudi. The bigger issue is the oil trade market that the US dominates where the US economy starts to fell the pressure if oil stops flowing to other nations not necessarily the US.

The US opposes Iran because Iran has it's own Oil Bourse in which is independent from the NY oil Bourse. The US is scared If the Iranian models succeeds then many other nations will follow or join up with Iran shrinking the NY oil trade market.

It's not about nuke from the beginning it is all about the money connected to oil transaction and the possibility that US may be circumvented from the action. If that happens it's belly's up for the whole US economy with funds pumped in through various banks sapping up the money from the endless transactions carried out through them.

@SamuraiBlue, a couple days ago, the this topic was discussed on CNN with the State official, and I still remember how it can be broke down. Therefore US is calling this threat as a bluster.

    Answer:

The major import source is Saudi Arabia. There is still a significant amount of oil produced in the US, mainly in Alaska, Texas and offshore.

    Answer: The top ten sources of oil imported to the USA are: •Canada •Mexico •Saudi Arabia •Venezuela •Nigeria •Angola •Iraq •Russia •Algeria •Brazil

I am American and think they have as much right to make nukes and nuke energy as anyone else. If it makes them happy let them waste their time.

And m6Bob, you are right and the Mosad is slowly taking out scientists. I think assassinations are the answer.

It's good timing to show everyone your bigmouse and Iran knew it because simply nobody want a new war for the time being.

The US pulled troops out of Iraq. I guess the anti war pretend protesters feel pretty stupid about now.

Hmm, US went to war with Iraq because of its links with Bin Laden and its Nuke program of which both were proven to be incorrect and thus no need to go to war based on those reasons, while seemingly defending Iran. US is now wanting western nations to stop buying Iranian oil which the US does not depend on itself as it gets most of its oil from Canada. What is the real agenda? Maybe Iran wanted to change the oil currency from US$ to Euros which is a speculated reason why US went to war with Sadam.

US is NOT importing oil from Iran at all while Japan depends most oil from Iran. Nada!!

In additon to the fact listed above, 2012 is a Presidential Election year. That's the last thing Obama wants to do. He is a man of judical mind, and he will not be pulled into this mess as Bush did. Maybe Japan needs to start setting up a risk avert strategy just in case Iran stops the oil export to Japan. We are not a police for the world. We leave it to you.
