Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard said Iranian forces will close the strategic Strait of Hormuz to the United States

. . . .heh. & that buffoon, President Obama, gave them "a deal." Looks like he got played for a sucker. The mullahs are in charge, not the youthful iranian reformers who happen to be in politics.

Obama is getting stabbed in the back.

"the USS Vincennes in the strait mistook an Iran Air flight heading to Dubai for an attacking fighter jet, shooting down the plane and killing all 290 people aboard."

There is no mistaking a large commercial airliner for a fighter jet, there is nothing innocent about the U.S. actions in this incident!

"U.S. Navy officials say they face near-daily encounters with Iranian naval vessels."

Then the U.S. Navy should simply protect their own waters and stop pretending as if the are the world police.

In January, an unarmed Iranian drone flew over a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf, the first since 2014, according to Navy records obtained by the AP.

Oh no, a Drone flew over an aricraft carrier? Compare that to how many U.S. drones assassinate people all over the globe.

"Iranian commander threatens to close Strait of Hormuz to US"

Wouldn't it be great if the U.S. didn't depend on Middle East oil and U.S. warships could just stay out of that region of the world?

"Good LUCK with THAT Spongebob " (Spongebob, being the Irianian "Commander", that is).

There are lots of distractions going on. The obama administration is fading out. What are they going to do?? Snap back sanctions? NOT.

Yeah, ONLY if the Chinese and Russians agree that closing the Strait or Hormuz might violate certain terms and conditions of "the deal."

What's the Iranians harping about now?

Why are they saber rattling?

What are they trying to start?

There's nothing going on. Things are quiet. Keep it that way.

And they only own their side of the Strait, so they would be going into UAE's and Oman's waters in order to close it.

The Sponge Bobs of the nation are not advancing global acceptance. The Sponge Bobs that held the navy crew hostage for over 24 hours laugh at the current USA. WA4TKG says it right. Good luck with that!

It seems to be a great way to get the price of oil to jump quickly. That is what I was thinking when I first read the headline. How much will the price of oil have risen since this comment.

If the Americans and their regional allies want to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and threaten us, we will not allow any entry

Sheesh, you guys don't do nuance very well, nor understand complicated messages sent mostly for domestic consumption, not as saber-rattling.

We remain thoughtful, vigilant and responsible mariners as we conduct our operations here,

Yes! That is the optimal answer, conveying mutual respect but ceding not an inch. This is what worries the Pentagon so much about Trump: his obtuseness.

Isn't that the same Powerful Revolutionary Guard that the marines defeated in a matter of days not tha many years ago? Did they really need a lifting of the embargo? We are not being told many things about all this I think.

The "Obama" deal with Iran was negotiated by all world powers not just the US, and by the way the US is no longer dependent on Arab oil, the greedy fossil fuel companies are! but I would withdraw the navy from the Persian gulf and just about everywhere else, let them all kill each other

"Wouldn't it be great if the U.S. didn't depend on Middle East oil and U.S. warships could just stay out of that region of the world?" Truth is the USA does not need any foreign oil for its own consumption, they want to control oil so they can control every country that needs it and they can extort the profits on other countries oil production and oil consumption. They are nor the world police they are world extortionist.
