Meh, just remember who has the best planes and bombs. They control the endgame.

This is turning into an even bigger gong show. Now the Iraqis are praising Iran over the US. If there was ever a time to get out of there and leave the to figure it out on their own, it's now.

Hopefully the Persians can push the infidels out and stop these supplies getting to Al-Qaeda/Isis/Isil et al. and bring a much needed peace to the populace.

The Iraqis should just decline that more than $1.6 billion in military aid. No, that won't happen.

Considering the fact that it was the actions of the US government that created an environment that allowed for the existence of ISIS, that money should be considered as restitution.

Nice. US foreign policy in the Mid East has long been a wonderful machine for guaranteeing positive outcomes. We'll establish a second Texas in Iraq yet!

@Strangerland Well that is good, because that is all that they are going to get! Russia can pick up the rest for having propped up Assad.

that is all that they are going to get!

Unfortunately, it's probably not. It should be though. The west needs to stop meddling in the Middle East.

Unconditional support? I hope the Iraquis read the fine print in that agreement.

Spot on, couldn't have said it better myself.

because that is all that they are going to get!

Scip: Wanna bet that you are dead wrong, US will pour in more money, more arms, more training to a demoralized incompetent army which will run away the moment they need to use all the training and arms.

Special note of thanks to bush junior for invading Iraq based on lies and in the end turning over the country to Iran. Mission Accomplished! Ten years ago we liberals could see the end game of the Iraq war failure, now it is here. Bush, Cheney and the whole neocon crew who faked up this war of choice should all be in jail.

Strangerland: The west needs to stop meddling in the Middle East.

How would that work?

Walk away. Let them sort out their own crap.

"We are all prisoners here of our own device."

The question for Japan is how much more it will be asked by the Americans to continue coughing up in the name of this international coalition against ISIS which, if defeated, hands Iraq to Iran (with Assad staying on in Syria) but which, if victorious, will create a caliphate that will export terrorism for a long, long time -- sparing not even the chicken hawks in the Abe government.

Why do people expect unconditional support from the US? Why would the US spend billions of taxpayer money and not expect to have a say? That would not fly with the taxpayers. If they are supported, they got to give a say.

"The U.S. has failed to live up to its promises to help Iraq fight Islamic State extremists,"

What I want to know is what Russia and China are doing to help Iraq fight Islamic State extremists.

"What I want to know is what Russia and China are doing to help Iraq fight Islamic State extremists."

"They're helping Syria and Iran fight them."

Really! And how many Russian/Chinese airstrikes have been conducted, or how how many Russian/Chinese boots are on the ground?
