I would have SushiSake, but I found the best way to combat the blind pro war supporters is to not mention that fact. Obviously if the invasion didn't take place, this mess would never have happened. But it happened, and the pro war crowd will never accept that fact by saying the U.S. still liberated them, etc. etc. So what one has to do to combat this ignorance is by accepting that it happened, but criticize the way they handled the post occupation.
Sail - Help a few thousand people in Iraq while wiping out trillions in Fed money back home, which will affect Americans for decades in higher interest rates, lower savings, lower benefits, higher mortgage rates, slashed spending for heathcare, education, Social Security, you name it..
Yeah, the "surge" worked all right.....
Big deal and real bad luck you supported it in the first place.
Try this for a headline I would have liked: "More than a million Iraqis not killed and 4.25 million Iraqis not displaced thanks to aborted U.S. invasion."
We invaded get over it......We came damn near to losing after we invaded because Bush and Co didn't have a clue, I accept that as do most rational people. I can't change that and neither can you, and to keep going back to we shouldn't invaded is mute now.
The issue now is pure and simple we have a policy that is working now and to not support it or deny it's obvious success is asinine. Iraq is standing up and we are starting to stand down.......Thanks to the surge and to the troops on the ground. The same troops that don't really give a hoot about your opinion but just want to finish the mission so they go home, and that is starting to look sooner now.
Sail - "Iraq is standing up and we are starting to stand down.......Thanks to the surge and to the troops on the ground."
You really think so?
Do you really think that when US troops pull out, that everything will be sunny and that Iraqis will be holding tea parties and planting flowers in the streets?
Excuse the exaggeration, but if you think anything close to that is going to unfold, you're really not living in reality, not even close.
Sail - "We invaded get over it......"
Hundreds of thousands, if not millions have been unnecessarily killed and millions displaced, livelihoods, communities and cities walled in and destroyed - what do you recommend I do ?
Just "get over it......"?
Sheesh, no surprises there why Americans are one of the most despised cultures on the planet...
Obviously if the invasion didn't take place, this mess would never have happened.
So, can you tell me exactly what would have happened if Saddam and is sons hadn't been removed from power? Are you actually going to claim that Saddam wouldn't have helped any anti-U.S. terrorist groups?
The one fact that the anti-Bush, anti-liberation armchair Maoists can't bring themselves to accept is that the troops are leaving Iraq because the country was liberated and is being stabilized under Bush's watch.
Now if he would've just secured our own borders... :(
The NeoCons on this thread forgot to add an accomplishment of the war. We now have in the history books that the U.S. military invaded a country without provocation towards the United States or any other country on the pretext of a preemtive strike with weapons that did not exist. The NeoCons have cast shame on my United States!
Talk of timetables is a good thing. It points to success. Why has it taken so long? Religious "differences" and the cancer of terrorism. Let's put the blame where it belongs.
As usual, the US does what the UN lacks the guts to do. The world goes into spasms of outrage. But I imagine that most are secretly relieved that sharia law isn't coming to their neighborhood--at least not anytime soon.

After a decade of sanctions? They didn't even have enough medicine to stop babies dying from simple, easy-to-cure illnesses.
Stop buying into the fear-mongering.

And deny that they corrected that by the surge.

If I didn't the headline wouldn't read as it does.
Iraq says it is close to deal on U.S. troop withdrawal
I don't even want to imagine the headline you would have liked to be seen here instead of this one if the surge never happened.

Undecided - in English, please?
And by the way, I think you are confusing "arrogance" with "patriotism."
But I'm not surprised :-)

As you so often ask on the Iran threads - got proof?
Nothing highlights the int'l Left's hypocrisy on Iraq more than the constant barrage of wildly inflated casualty figures.
You never cite Iraqi sources.
Because in truth the people whose sovereignty and rights you claim to champion actually mean nothing to you.

That's nothing more than breathless, wild-eyed hype, I'm afraid and will be treated with the contempt it deserves.
