I'm not surprised that a vet was out doing this. I am surprised that this doesn't happen more often. Members of the military mainly infantry are taught and trained on a daily basis to kill. They perform to the best of their duties and are then reunited with civilization and everyday life where their specialty is no longer needed, but they never forget it. It is difficult for some to accept the change and this is whyI'm surprised this type of action doesn't occur more often. RIP to the victims and I hope the vet can receive some mental help.

I'd look into the crowd he ran with before joining up and after he got out. .

This is also just a another Guy become a victim of Wars....

Imagine...How He had killed enough Freely , innocent people in Iraq, now He become blood thirsty.

This is how there are paying for innocent killings done in the names of Wars ,

A homeless Vietnam War vet killed mercilessly by an Iraqi War vet. Cruel coincidence there.

HIs father was homeless.The killer showed photos of one of the guys he stabbed to his father, maybe thinking (in his psychoitc state?) that this would change his father's behavior. We can't discern the motives of the criminally insane.

If you are as cynical as miyazawa3 I guess you conclude all fathers and sons are killers...

Why, did his high school buddies double dog dare him to do this? It sounds like he acted alone, so why blame "the crowd" of civilians he socialized with. He undoubtedly socialized with his brother too. Lock little bro up as a lesson?

You certainly are imagining things. Ocampo served one eight month tour of duty in Iraq in which he was not involved in any combat duty. You must be so disappointed.

Tis a disgrace a Vietnam vet is living on the street, let alone a battle-crazy Iraq vet running around slaughtering an easier target found in the homeless.

For how many years will the side-effects of George W's war continue to chalk up a bodycount?

USNinJapan, According to another article on CNN.com, Ocampo's father and friend said that Ocampo came back from Iraq a very different person. His father said he was preoccupied with the end of the world.
