While large populations of Syrian civilians have been subjected to unspeakable atrocities by the Assad regime and their Russian overlords (missiles, barrel bombs and starvation to name a few), Syria's 1%'ers had been living a life of luxury in the coastal towns, not caring the least bit about the horrors imposed on their countrymen. Both sides are murderous. The Assad dictatorship is murderous too - it has to in order to keep its power. It's not about murder - to many people, it's about which would be stable. Saddam Hussein could had murdered as many Shiites and Kurds he wants, as long as he kept stability and not invade Kuwait - then a lot of people would be OK with it.
