The issue is more than the state of Palestine. The bigger issue is that Israel must be punished for all it's past crimes, have sanctions imposed, it's leaders facing the ICC and the IAEA to investigate that this humans right abuser is holding weapons of mass destruction. Compensation must also be paid to Lebanon regarding the use of cluster bombs on civilians, soldiers and their commanders must be be arrested for the Gaza Flottila Massacre and the sabotage of this years aid mission. An independent judicial inquiry must investigate war crimes carried out in Gaza, and UN peacekeepers must patrol the 1967 Borders where Palestine will be defined. All settlements within the West Bank must be abandoned. East Jerusalem will be the capital, all Jewish settlements to be confiscated.the Palestinian govt in return, must guarantee Israels security, and drop the demand of the right of return for the Palestinians forced from their houses inside Palestine. These victims can instead, be housed in abandoned settlements.

    Asagao:

Any thoughts on your side about publishing the muslim-arab neighbours for 50 years of violence and terrorism against the Jewish state? (Which, incidentally is the the functioning democracy with modern human rights for all its citizens in the region..... but that does not seem to matter for western libs.)

the functioning democracy with modern human rights for all its citizens

    Ha!

    1) Arab citizens of Israel are paid on average 29% less than Jewish citizens.

    2) Only 5% of Israeli civil servants are Arabs (though Arabs make up 20% of the Israeli population)

    3) Only 0.6% of funds for health promotion and development is spent by the government on Arabs (still 20% of the population).

I could go on and on and on....

Bottom line, Arabs are second-class citizens, whatever you say about "human rights".

Just out of curiosity how do the Jews fair that live in Arab countries? If we are comparing how people are treated, would be interested to hear your answer on that one.

If you ran a restaurant, and a cusomer complained that your food was revolting, do you seriously think that "Well, compared to a bucket of pigswill it's pretty damn good." would be a fair answer?

Arab countries are notorious for human rights abuses, I wouldn't claim any different. But WilliB said that Israel is a state with "...modern human rights for all its citizens." Which is patently nonsense.

"Rising tensions with some of its closest and most important allies have left Israel increasingly isolated ahead of a momentous vote on Palestinian independence at the United Nations."

Gotta love that spin. As if the region has seen no changes whatsoever since this last came up...

"Troubles with Turkey, Egypt and even the U.S. are adding to Israel's headaches ahead of the vote, "

Post-Mubarak Egypt led by the genocidal Muslim Brotherhood; Erdogan seeking to repeal the Kemalist foundations of modern Turkey; and the Obama administration. Hard to say who wants Israel destroyed the most.

Well done Asagao! You touched on so many points in that brief post and treated it all pretty fairly by my reckoning. The only part I have difficulty with is relocations of settlements. Some of them are quite large, have been there for decades, and quick relocations would be impossible. I think what will have to happen is that the big ones stay where they are, remain part of Israel, and give them a corridor through Palestine to travel. Likewise, a corridor will also have to be created for travel between West Bank and Gaza. It won't be neat, but nothing will.

Israel is a mess, Iran is a mess, Palestinians are hated not only in Israel but by all other Arabs too, they are just a political football for the Saudis, for the Egyptians etc...will Muslims and Jews ever get along?? No idea, but the USA needs to tackle worse problems in its own borders and south of the border with all the narco drug terrorists running hogwild now in Mexico, Guatemala etc...Let the Jews and Palestinians work this mess out for themselves, they have been at each others throats for at least 2 thousand years and my guess at least 2 thousand more years before they grew up and stop killing each other.
