Obama really doesn't matter when it comes down to it. In 2 years, he'll be out on his butt anyway, and both Dems and Republican lawmakers both support Israel. Obama can try playing the stateman, and criticizing Israel some more, but it will cost him the support of members of his own party.
The houses in Jerusalem are a done deal. The agreement on new houses in the West Bank will expire soon. I don't expect that to be renewed, but we'll see.

HeyLars
Molenir, saying Obama doesn't matter because he will be out one day is like saying no president ever mattered about anything. The president sets the tone, and a president coming out hard against Israel may very well begin an avalanche in the minds of the American people that breaks their curretn and past blindness and refusal to scrutinize anything Israel does. They in turn vote for who sits in Congress and if the American people stop giving these bad faith Israelis a free pass all the time, Congress may yet listen.
And FYI Obama has 3 years left.

The president is Barack Obama. Is there a surprise here?

I'm glad that Obama is standing up to Israel. I'm looking forward to the foreign aid to be reduced of stopped. Obama isn't the pansy most presidents are. He's not going to pussy foot around either.
Go home Netanyahu and rethink your visit. Obama not going to bend over for you and I don't think Hillary Clinton likes you much either. I knew I like these two. < :-)

I wonder, with Obama having Muslim roots as well as having befriended antisemites like Farrakhan have anything to do with his position on this.
Farrakhan did after all call Judaism a gutter religion and that was not because of the situation in Israel, it was his belief.
If his position doesn't change, I believe Israel will only have a few more years left as a state.

skip, why on Earth would Obama's position not changing doom Israel to only a few more years? I hear more about danger from Israel supporters than the boy who cried "wolf!" Sorry, but we know all of Israel's suicides are fake. They no longer need military aid from us and as much as I hope they get off, that is not even one of Obama's positions unfortunately! So again, why would Israel have only a few more years? If they are that dependent, all the more reason to cut them off! A dependent teen in the house I can see, but Israel is 62 years old!
And there is a problem with the headline. Israel can't have a moment of truth because they don't know what truth is! Neither do the Palestinians, but we don't support Palestinians militarily do we?

That is an incredible anti-Isreal biased article.
The fact is, Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and not an occupied territory.
If Obama now makes a new division of Jerusalem a precondition for peace talks, he breaking a long-standing US-position and going further towards appeasing muslim demands than any president before him.
And of course, for the muslims that is STILL not enough. They´ll happily agree to split East Jerusalem from Israel, and then they´ll continue to make more demands (including the notorious issue of "right of return" which would be the demographic end of Israel).
What a disaster this man is.

Mr. Obama's stance mirrors what the world thinks and wishes to do: teach Israel to behave properly. This man is a macho man, the first President who are facing Israel upfront.
It is amazing to read so many posts wishing US to return to her positon of peasant to Israel. Must be israelis themselves, or bushists, or people who likes to see US in a doormat position to Israel.

Another US ally that Obama has stabbed in the back.

As the old saying goes "with an ally like that, who needs enemies?"

Not the way I'd describe someone who goes around bowing to everyone. Macho, no, I don't think so. More like a indecisive, pathetic wimp, trying to appear tough.
Or more accurately, with a friend like Obama, who needs enemies?
