Must have been an awful experience, despite the Japanese camera lady claiming it was a 'cake-walk' and being unable to figure out what all the fuss was. I hope this guy has found something better where he is now.

This soldier is an American Hero. He endured beatings and starvation from water and food for 70 miles and endured. < :-)

Heh, too bad my uncle didn't survive it, well, not entirely. Survived the march, and then found himself on the wrong end of a Japanese officer's sword. I can only imagine what kind of hell that march was.

The treatment of US POWs as exemplified by the Death March, being just one of numerous incidents of violations of all accepted military protocols was an atrocity. The military controlled Imperial Japanese Govt at the time was a sadistic overzealous ultranationalist organization from the top to bottom that didn't care about anyone, third party civilians, enemy POWs, even their own members. The best thing that ever happened to Japan was that it was utterly destroyed. Fortunately those responsible were tried and convicted. However, my late uncle who served in Guadalcanal when he was 19 told me that what some of our Marines were doing wasn't exactly in accoradance with proper military protocol either. When they say war is hell, I guess it's not a movie cliche.

My comment wasn't an effort to create any "moral equivalecy". It was to point out that under wartime conditions alot of people do what they normally wouldn't do if they were in society. That's what my uncle told me. And this is from guy who had been trained to kill the enemy as they were subhumans.

And it seems to me that your bringing up some US troops behavior on a thread about the death of Jack Brady is in poor taste to his ordeal and memory.

there are no innocents in war. if you support the war effort, you are open game. if you do not support it, move away immediately upon knowing that your country is heading for war.

ok, some guys died through lack of water and random katana attacks on a small march. so what. Thousands of kids got melted by a couple of nukes. thousands of kids. thousand of kids. babies. many many babies.

At least the Japanese had the courage to fight face to face, man to man. Same does not go to the US. Death from above goes to the yellow US.

But in that, what Japan did in China is disgusting and it I hope that those who made decisions are haunted by the nuclear dead forever.

all in all, war is hell and there is no wrong or right in war.

I don't know who apppointed you God and Judge but I feel no shame in telling the truth. This is what separates "us" from the "bad guys". If you ever feel ashamed of telling the truth, then I suggest you question your own motives and actions. My comment does nothing to dishonor the men who fought for our country. Your silly comment did.

War itself is wrong. In war, winning or losing takes priority over right and wrong. We fight wars not because we want to but because we have to.
