What a difference a month makes. While living, because of his unusual "tastes," MJ was a pariah. He kicks the bucket, and every Tom, Dick and Harry wants a piece of him.

That's probably because he was one totally twisted and mangled wreck of a human being. Physically and mentally. When he was alive he was considered somewhat dodgy, and although there's no proof his bed-sharing was other than misguided childishness he'll always be suspect. Now he's dead and harmless, people pity his wasted life more than they could while he was alive, and so they mourn him. Hypocritically, but not meaning any harm.

no one can blame anyone for thinking in the negative against MJ. He brought much of that on himself. Check out his interview with Ed Bradly from 60mins.

anyway, this is getting out of hand. Has there ever been such a large event like this for anyone else? Was Diana's send off this big?

Yeah. Princess Diana's funeral was a pretty big spectacle as well. I remember it well. I was only in the 7th grade when she died, but i do remember them stopping class for us to watch the funeral on a tape or something.

Sad on so many levels, Michael Jackson was at his prime a brilliant performer and I believe a truly decent person. He gave gobs of money to charity etc. Sure he was eccentric and I think he probably was an extreme case of arrested development but he was a person worthy of compassion. What about all the users and leaches in his life including the kid who accused him of molestation. That kid's family gave me 20 million reasons why I'm sure it never happened. In the end despite his fame and fortune he had a somewhat tragic life. The fans and the hangers on profess their love now that he's dead. Where was all this support when he was alive? RIP Michael Jackson

I live in LA, but I didn't even try to submit my name to the memorial service "lottery". The reaction by some of the people who were selected to attend was shockingly inappropriate...as if they had won some kind of prize on a game show. I watched a few minutes of the live broadcast this morning on TV, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how respectful and subdued the attendees were throughout the service. I applaud them, but I still think Elizabeth Taylor had the right idea. Stay home and mourn in private.
