The article is misleading. Potassium iodide is not an "anti cancer drug". How does the writer come up with nonsense like this?
Potassium iodide pills are simply meant to overload your body with safe iodine for a short time, while the air is overloaded with radioactive iodine. Nothing more than that.

This is a commentary article from AP. It's a fact that journalists as a whole are not physicists or doctors. They best they can do is to interview physicists and doctors and then write commentaries like this to the best of their limited understanding. Misleading or not, as a consumer of news, we should always keep in mind the falliability of journalists and consult other, more reliable sources, where possible.

Potassium iodide only helps protect your thyroid, the rest of your body is out of luck.
