First, I'd like to praise Barenboim for getting past all of this Nazi-Holocaust drama and celebrating Wagner's music -despite the controversy- because he truly likes and enjoys Wagner's compositions. Bravo!

Still, while Wagner had nothing to do with Nazism, he was an anti-semite, and a good one at that. Also, his family did later support the Nazis and had a personal relationship with Hitler. Not that that takes anything away from the quality of Wagner's art.

Fascinating how ridiculous people can be. The Germans pretty much did away with the name Adolf because of Hitler. The old Buddist line symbol creates aggitation because of its resemblence to a swastika which came later. People hate Wagner because Hitler liked him. I suppose we should consider vegetarianism evil because Hitler was a vegetarian? And never mind Einstein! Where does it end? Hitler claimed to be a Christian, he spoke German, he had a moustache, he owned dogs, drank alcohol and was anti-communist. We going to throw all those in the bin too?

In fact, by decrying Wagner, all they do is celebrate Hitler, as if he were some god to whom all the compositions of this great composer belong! What a ship of fools!
