Ok, so put him in a padded cell the rest of his life. Criminally responsible or not, this guy is as dangerous as a wild Sumatran tiger. You do not let one run around loose...ever.

Ok, so put him in a padded cell the rest of his life." No, he needs love, hugs and kisses.
We must rehabilitate him...... its good society.

Nice sneer skipthesong but the courts have to legally make this determination in order to take away his individual rights i.e. lock him up indefinitely. If he was to be deemed criminally responsible, then the chances of him gaining freedom increases. No one in Canada wants him loose again.

"He will be institutionalized without a criminal record and will be reassessed every year by a mental health review board to determine if he is fit for release into the community."
Now THIS is insane! Yes, lock the guy up in a mental institution if indeed he has been found by professionals to be mentally insane, but I believe the conditions of his 'release' should not be into the public if he is later found fit, but to prison where he should serve time for committing the crime. Otherwise, keep him in the institution. As for 'without the criminal record', that's unbelievable.

Wasn't there anyone on the bus that even tried to stop this guy? What kind of limp noodles are they raising up there?

Everyone was sleeping at the time of the attack and besides who is really going to against a pyscho with a huge knife, the guy in Akihabara took more than one person in a 30 seconds and people with boxcutters were able to highjack planes filled with alot more people.
On another note if he nevers gets better, he could end up spending a longer time in the looney bin then he would have in prision.
