But the promise came under fire from Republicans concerned that violent militants could come into the United States posing as refugees.

Why on earth would they do that? Getting in as a refugee can take years of red tape and investigations. Can't they just buy a plane ticket like all the other terrorists do?

For three reasons. 1.) Simply repeating what the 9-11 terrorists did will draw scrutiny. 2.)Refugees are in line to receive numerous government benefits that will help them settle in to American life. 3.)"Refugee" is the new Liberal chic; anyone questioning a refugee or any policies regarding them will be labeled a racist, bigot, etc.

Many (if not most) have never been issued a passport. Syrians weren't exactly globetrotting tourists even before the civil war. This is why so many people from Iran, Pakistan, India, Kosovo etc can just show up and claim to be Syrian. It's also a huge problem when they all insist that they are unaccompanied 16 year olds who can't be deported.

Many added problems in Europe since the flood gates opened. Not to mention the arrogance of those who were fenced off. They broke through and denied the law and proceeded into host nations forcibly. I wouldn't want a large population in my town. When a woman risks assault because of her dress style or behavior.

Kansas is withdrawing from plans to resettle Syrian refugees in the state after the federal government failed to provide security information and files on them

Good. Those islamic refugees DO NOT belong in the red/white&blue even if they did pass all the background checks and bureaucratic red tape. We're "infidels" remember-

Kudos to the (R) Governor of Kansas for protecting his state and its citizens.

I know that people on the right shrivel up into little balls of fear when they think of a Muslim resettling in their area, but not everyone else does. Besides, don't you have your guns? How can you still be that afraid of a Muslim family?

"Besides, don't you have your guns?"

It took about 300 SWAT team members and other police officers touting assault rifles and explosives several hours to deal with that couple in San Bernadino. A few civilian neighbors with pistols ain't gonna cut it.

"I know that people on the right shrivel up into little balls of fear when they think of a Muslim resettling in their area,"

In many cases, they move before that happens. Molenbeek, Beeston Hill and hundreds of other such European neighborhoods have seen sharp drops in their native populations. Yeah, religious enclaves. Feel the vibrancy.

Maybe they're afraid for their daughters?

Teen confesses to gang rape attack in Vienna Published: 25 Apr 2016

It follows a run of similar attacks in the Praterstern area, including a rape in January along the Hauptalle road that runs through the park and an attempted rape in March by a teenage asylum seeker.

There was also an alleged attempted rape incident last Thursday night in Graz, when a 17-year-old asylum seeker from Afghanistan attacked a woman in the street on her way home.

I'm from Kansas and I regret to say that the state government has been taken over by nut-jobs and zealots. The state is nearly bankrupt due to tax cuts that shifted the tax burden on to the poor but failed to unleash the promised growth.

The education system is heading towards Mississippi-level bad as funding dries up and teachers leave the state.

This is an effort to distract from those problems by pretending to take action. In fact, the federal government admits people to the United States, after which they can move as they please. The state of Kansas can no more keep them from settling there than it can prevent capital flight from the state (although why anyone would want to live in such an unwelcoming environment is beyond me).

A family of three and two men have been resettled there in the past 15 months.

Oh wow, are they sure they are not overdoing it? I mean considering the American involvement in almost any war, that is a laughable achievement. I do agree that we shouldn't ship the refugees to far off places, but why did Germany have to take in so many then?

”I mean considering the American involvement in almost any war,”

Some people have short memories. The Obama administration was criticized for dragging its feet when the Syrians decided to start killing each other in horrific numbers. The civil war is a direct result of the "Arab Spring." Mind you, the US always makes the perfect scapegoat. So keep concocting those narratives!

Not surprising that Kansas did this. After all, they ALSO passed a law mandating that all public schools teach creationism. A backwater state, to be sure.

but why did Germany have to take in so many then?

Because Germany announced they would NOT send away syrian refugees who emigrated into Germany from another EU country, where they were originally registered and documented in.

Its a mess.

The US has been involved in Syria from the start, not with troops but supporting several sides of the conflict. But in all fairness, so have Saudi-Arabia, Turkey, Russia etc.
