U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday raised the threat of Islamic militants in Iraq and Syria directly with his Iranian counterpart in rare high-level talks in New York, a U.S. official said.

Hey Kerry Iran knows there are Islamic militants in Iraq and Syria. They are paying to get them there.

Wolfpack, the subject is ISIL. Do you really think Iran is supporting them?

Probably not - maybe Assad though.

They are absolutely NOT paying for them. It must have escaped your tender attention that ISIS is a Sunni movement, while Iran is Shia. Iran is, in fact, fighting ISIS.

Like Kerry, you might want to read up on the background of the situation. (Kerry, of course, is demonstrating his ignorance by expecting Iran to help while he is trying to remove Assad, who is Iran`s client.)

Wolfpack, you're suggesting Assad is an Islamic militant, then?

No, but Hezbollah are Islamists - just a different variety than ISIS. And they are largely funded by Iran. I never stated that Assad was an Islamic militant or that Iran was funding ISIS. But Iran is funding militants in Syria. Kerry should know that but he is making nice with Iran anyway.

So the US and Iran will perhaps cooperate. To combat Ismalists so extreme to even scare the Saudi's and Iran in to working together.

Bush was right: the invasion of Iraq did bring a new mid east....

Wolfpack,

Some fresh air should clear the cobwebs.

After a good night's rest, the Guardian's guide to ME politics might prove useful:

Bush has nothing to do with this. He was babysitting Iraq (and would probably still be doing that today.)

The combination of Sunni jihadis in Syria, plus the complete withdrawal in Iraq led to the success of ISIS. Both were were Obama policies. (And of course helped by the preceding US support of Sunni jihadis in Libya and Tunesia... also Obama decisions.)

This obsession with a 2 election cycles removed president while blanking out everything that the current Potus has been doing and is doing is really getting ridiculous. What is it up with that --- you have not being any attention for 7 years at all??
