Netanyahu blew his credibility by lying before and his graphic attempts using mangaesque illustrations of non existent bombs wouldn't have helped his cause either.....why would he be taken seriously this time?

I, for one, am happy that we have responsible leaders handling a very tricky problem.

And not a bunch of yahoo blowhards.

Netanyahu offered no alternate negotiating tactic beyond urging the U.S. to walk away from the table. No surprises there! Netanyahu has been crying wolf for more than 25 years. Remember when Netanyahu was holding a cartoon drawing of a bomb that Iran would have "within months"? Where is the bomb? It's as baseless as the Iraqi WMDs but Netanyahu has been making the claim for close to three decades. Show us your proof, oh that's right, you have none.

You don't get it: his brave speaking truth to power stopped the bomb research in its tracks.

What about the nuclear bombs that Israel has? Why isn't Israeli nuclear disarmament on the negotiating table?

Lol, sorry but that's the funniest comment I've ever read on JT.

Maybe because they are not threatening to wipe other countries off the map. Maybe because they do not go around shouting 'Death to Iran' every five minutes. Oh, and perhaps because the Israeli's are not spreading a radical form of Islam throughout the Middle East and beyond that is causing otherwise peaceful Muslims to cut the heads off of non-believers and apostates. In other words, the Israelis are not looking to nuke anyone.

Netanyahu seems very intent on getting into a war that America will have to fight. I think he needs to be warned to tone down his rhetoric as his posturing is the most aggressive in Israel for years.. I guess he has also used this to divert focus to incidents and negoitations like these than to the continuing Jewish settlements in the West Bank

JTDanMan -- I agree with Stuart. That comment is absolutely hilarious, and shows the basic ignorence of the folks who are so opposed to these negotiations. The fact is the interim agreement, which Obama and the other countries negotiated with Iran, is what has "stopped the research in its tracks", in combination, of course, wit the crippling sanctions Obama has put in place. But thanks for the laugh.

No, Obama with his inexperience and lack of insight and knowledge of foreign affairs thinks he alone knows best and that is a recipe for disaster and THAT might be the catalyst that can get us into a bigger conflict with the Iranians.

I think he needs to be warned to tone down his rhetoric as his posturing is the most aggressive in Israel for years...

In my opinion, he could have gone on for another hour. Funny how Obama said, he didn't watch his speech, but commented just minutes after it, the man sure knew a lot about the speech, interesting for someone who avoided it.

I guess he has also used this to divert focus to incidents and negoitations like these than to the continuing Jewish settlements in the West Bank

Maybe he should have gone on about how Hamas are terrorizing the Israelis.

Netanyahu is the one who is saying that there is no alternative but to walk away from the table. Do you really expect Iran would "cave in" to that? Especially now they know it has come at Israel's insistence? All diplomacy is compromise, making unconditional demands from nations is dangerous and outdated.

Obama said, he didn't watch his speech

I thought Obama read the transcript of the speech or something?

Maybe he should have gone on about how Hamas are terrorizing the Israelis.

Netanyahu definitely should have mentioned that, and it definitely is a problem that Palestinians need to sort out and be punished for. But justifying other actions because of this isn't really taking the moral high ground for Israel, and also highlights a worrying reactionary stance, rather than a constructive one.

About 150 former Israeli generals and intelligence officials opposed Netanyahu's speech before he delivered it.

Come on guys, I don't think JTDanMan was serious...

You realize that the other UN Security Council countries are involved in the talks too, right? China, Russia, UK, France, Germany... It's Netanyahu that thinks he alone has all the answers.

And all these countries know what's best for Israel?? So what's wrong with making Iran promise not to attack Israel and its neighbors and until it promises not to engage in proliferation, there is and should be NO DEAL!

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

That's the problem with Netanyahu. He's only concerned with what's good for Israel, or what at least what he believes is good for Israel. From the article.

Netanyahu offered no alternate negotiating tactic beyond urging the U.S. to walk away from the table, a point Kerry noted Wednesday.

Obviously, any deal would involve not attacking Israel. You can't negotiate a deal if you don't sit at the table.

So now you want to compare him to Obama?? BB is not even close to being remotely as bad as the president.

Netanyahu offered no alternate negotiating tactic beyond urging the U.S. to walk away from the table, a point Kerry noted Wednesday.

Exactly and as he should. You don't live next to Iran, so as an outsider I would see why you would say something so.....

Obviously, any deal would involve not attacking Israel.

We've been dealing with Iran for 36 years and the entire time, The Iranians have always lied and never told the truth and you think all of a sudden they will just have a change of heart, a little moral clarity and now they love Israel, will recognize it and leave them and Egypt, The Saudies and Jordanians alone? Newsflash, it will never happen, but the Iranians are smart and they know how dumb Kerry and Obama are and how bad they want to make this deal, it wouldn't matter to them in the end, 18 months Obama will be gone and whatever happens, the next president will have to deal with this crap!

You can't negotiate a deal if you don't sit at the table.

Exactly, when the Iranians make these kinds of demands, you walk away. If Israel would have and dealt with these guys the way Obama has been doing, the state of Israel would have been destroyed a long time ago.

Netanyahu is the one who is saying that there is no alternative but to walk away from the table. Do you really expect Iran would "cave in" to that?

Iran doesn't have to cave in to anything, Israel should get up and leave, simple. They Iranians need this more than anyone else

Especially now they know it has come at Israel's insistence? All diplomacy is compromise, making unconditional demands from nations is dangerous and outdated

Why? Because it has a legitimate right to be concerned? Ask the Saudies and the Jordanians and the Egyptians how they feel about this deal? They have more than enough reasons to doubt the deal and doubt Obama.

I thought Obama read the transcript of the speech or something?

He said that, but come on, Obama watched the speech, that's why after the speech he looked so pissed off.

Netanyahu definitely should have mentioned that, and it definitely is a problem that Palestinians need to sort out and be punished for. After what the Israelis and what the Jewish people have gone through in the last century, the is absolutely nothing wrong with being overly cautious. If Iran is sincere and really wants to live with its Jewish and Sunni neighbors, they would do everything to gain the trust of the international community and might I add, they would stop having military exercise where they blow up a mock US aircraft carrier while they want to negotiate?? Again, both the Iranians and the president are out of their minds!

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

i think carrying out the negotiations while the sanctions are in place is smart..after all, it is for netanyahu to talk with his counterpart from iran, but he cannot do that and instead he talk to US congress..might be better if he keep things to himself and just watch as obama and his team are now doing just that.

How could the high-tech Iranians not be close to having a nuclear bomb by now? They've been working on it for decades...

Some JTers have offered exceedingly brave comments in this thread. No doubt they will be the first to sacrifice their lives and/or fortune in an entirely preventable and unnecessary war - just like Netanyahu, a man who never flinched at volunteering American blood and treasure. Very manly. Send your own sons.

What is really striking to me is that most libs really hate war, but they constantly talk and bring it up more often than ANY conservative I know. No conservative has been advocating for going to war, where you Dems get that is beyond me. You don't have to go to just walk away from a disastrous deal.

Stuart and Jersey.

I was being trying to parody the whiney and paranoid right wing nut jobs. Sorry that wasn't clear.

JTDanMan: My apologies, I did notice the comment was out of charictor from your usual and previous ones.
