"Beijing politely but pointedly rejected U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s push for it to reduce tensions"
The term "Peaceful Rise" must mean something completely different in Chinese.

Hint hint China, you're neighbors don't really trust you at all. If they did, they wouldn't be complaining now would they?

Japan should build an airstrip on the Senkakus and see if China likes it.

Get used to statements like these. China- once referred to as the "sick men of Asia". Not anymore. I'm not pro China, but them building runways in their sea ain't no big deal. It's not like they're in Catalina.
But this is why Abe is trying to enhance the alliance with US. What if their air force/navy starts flexing a little more closer to Senkaku islands? What say them protesters now?

"urges" is just about the most meaningless word in the politics.

Like China is going to listen the United States.

What are 50,000 Marines going to do against 1.6 billion Chinese? Besides, China isn't really a true threat to Japan.

Every person in China is a soldier?
Yes China is more than that. It is a threat to all of Asia and eventally, if left unchecked, a threat to the entire world. What makes it so is that it is the worldest largest, wealthiest, authoritarian one-party dictatorship with a military created and existing to support and protect that party, not the people or the country. The lack of citizens voting rights ensures that the government has no alternative but to use force, either against other nations or it's own people, to secure it's control over the country in the face of unrest. Such unrest can stem from economic reasons such as shortage of food and energy, and with that 1.6 billion population, the largest of any country on Earth, it's current behavior in the East and South China Seas and openly declared intent to push the U.S. out of the western Pacific in an effort to fullfil itls territorial expansion goals suggests that China is not going to solve it's own problems peacefully in coordination with the international community.

Kerry is not respected by the Chinese, and many others. No respect, no play nice.

China has one Soviet-era carrier with no aircraft and with an often-failing engine. However, Japan is working on its seventh light aircraft carrier. These are 3 Osumi-class, 2 Hyuga-class and soon-to-be 2 Izumo-class carriers.
