Pretty sad event. Then again, you load up on dope and you are asking for trouble.
Just out of interest, what are the visa requirements for popping over the border for a night out in Mexico? I would not have thought it is something you can do lightly.

None at all. It's just getting back to the US side that's a hassle without a passport.

The fear has been there for years now. Who are they kidding? We have an emerging narco-state on our southern border.

Mexico is the new Iraq. There were about 5500 drug-related murders in 2008 alone, and many of those were beheadings.

If you take a vacation in Mexico and get verifiable swine flu -your next 3 trips to Mexico are free (if the flu doesn't kill you). What do you get if you are outright (no flu) killed in Mexico? -10 free trips or a free trip home in a diplomatic bag.

I wonder why this is the only one out of about a dozen that are making the headlines?

This is like the guy from Nogata, Japan who popped in to Iraq to do some hitchhiking and get beheaded on international TV.
For all you youngsters out there, stay away from Mexico.

"Mexican officials are investigating whether any of the four San Diego-area victims had ties to the drug trade, after a toxicology report tested positive for cocaine"
Heh, the only ties I imagine this lot had with the "drug trade" was in the nickel and dime bag pruchasing end. Half the kids in the world probably toot coke on a weekend.....time to give the people what they want.
And tax it.

timorborder, normally in places like San Diego, which is right on the border with Tijuana, if you had just a US driver's license you can go back and forth. When I was stationed in San Diego years ago, it was a good spot for young sailors and marines to hang out, as well as college kids on spring break. Many people live in TJ and come to San Diego to work everyday. So it is relativly easy to go back and forth.

All four victims had Spanish names and sunrnames, you can easily infer that they were born in US but had strong cultural ties to Mexico. It´s wrong to say that this implicates that they went south for the wrong sort of partying - buy that´s what must have happened. And Mexico is the new Colombia, the land of drugs and crimes, unfortunately, because mexicans are so gentle and hospitable.

Watch 'Babel' for some good cultural background on border-hopping.
