Thumbs down me if you want, but if you illegally enter the US, you are assuming the risks involved. That includes deportation, and other hardships. Don't blame somebody else because you got caught.

Agreed sense, but our society has evolved into a severe lack of personal responsibility. Always it is someone else's fault. Certainly me or mine made a mistake.
And....entitlement society fosters 'the government will take care of us' mentality.
Illegals receive much more than they deserve. Hospitals will treat them, they drive both legally and illegally, they can send kids to school and they don't pay for these privileges and rights.
Let the thumbing begin!

I doubt the threat of "more pressure from the Latinos" will overcome the specter of "a disaster in the next elections for the Democrats".
It's not like they wouldn't love to bring in as many new voters in as possible by whatever means possible. But not in trade for their own jobs!

So those that are breaking the law are upset with Obama for not letting them get away with it until later. Unbelievable! What law should we give amnesty for next - car-jacking? Assault and battery?
SushiSake3
And true to form, Republicans and conservative voters are doing what they do oh so well - complain.
What are they actually DOING to address this immigration issue?
Nothing beside running away screaming from it. :-)
Where's their spine?

Good post Wolfpack.

Or are you saying that once somebody is able to sneak into the US, they should be treated like and allowed to become US citizens?

Obama claims that he is faced with a task impossible to execute with available funds. To be fair, he has deported illegal immigrants at a record-breaking pace - far more rapid than his predecessor. Still, his claim is that limited resources should be directed wisely towards deporting criminals and other antisocial types. So how much would it cost to acquiesce to Republican demands and deport every last one? Here are some numbers.

Obama couldn't even get $3 billion out of Congress to deal with the rush of Central American minors at the border. What are the chances he could get $216 billion?

Ahh, you mean, because Obama is playing politics with the Hispanic voters as well as with the Black voters? You probably have no idea what that would do to the Black community if Obama were to legalize a couple million Hispanics. Blacks are already at the bottom of the economic poll and bringing more Hispanics and cheap labor would further kill off any jobs that are already difficult for many poor Blacks to get, not to mention, the Democratic Party would virtually cease to exist. The backlash of that would make the Democratic name a curse word. Voters would never forgive the Dems for that, also, there is NO guarantee that even if you legalize these people, there is No way to guarantee that all Hispanics would vote Democratic. They are NOT a monolithic group.
So, yes! They have every right and should complain, if Obama were to do such a sleazy thing. Even Dems know that would be the end of them for a few election cycles at least.
For now nothing, what they need to do is get the president on board to completely close down and lock the border, that comes first and then when it's secure and the flow of aliens can be controlled properly and Berger managed, then we can go to the next step.
Hmmm, the Republicans have always been calling for a closed border, hardly running away. Unlike the Dems that always use race and the poor to achieve ANY political gains. Even if that means, breaking the law and allowing people to jump ahead of people that did follow the law and rightfully waiting to get their citizenship.
Obama, Reid don't even have a soul, much less a spine.

What a difference a century or so makes. Imagine if the US enacted a "Latino Exclusion Act", like it did with the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882?
ToshiYori
Considering our current "Swiss cheese" border, a "Latino Exclusion Act" wouldn't make any difference. It would keep legal applicants out, but illegals would still be able to swimrunwalk across the border.

A whopping 30% of students in California don't speak English! I need to verify, a stat I just heard. How effective is education for the English speaking of the students with that distraction?
turbotsat
Wouldn't expect them to mix ESL students with English speakers in classes where it counted much, or to use any Spanish in classes that aren't for learning Spanish.

Immigration ought to be simplified, but absolutely no amnesty leading to citizenship. The route to citizenship should be styled more like that of Switzerland, making citizenship valued, and eliminate the anchor-baby loophole. Only babies born of parent(s) with legitimate residency should be eventually eligible for citizenship after reaching adulthood, a decision requiring effort and intent, not automatic.
