I'm torqued that he is considering backing down on the public option. Free markets never correct themselves, they just take more because they can do this unchecked.
I'm hoping that he's just wanting to talk about other things and it's not off any health care bill.

So the obvious alternative is to have a nanny state because the american public is unable to take care of itself? No, responsibility must be left solely in the hands of the people, the same applies (or at least should apply) to every other industry.

16% of the national income on healthcare...and it still sucks!
England spends around 8% on the NPB...the U.S. spends almost the same on Medicare.
Yep, no socialized medicine for the US!

once the US goes to a nationalized health care, watch a number of countries with it go to a free market choice then we'll be required to follow them then too.

America needs a non-public health care system or else the rich socialists will have no where to go. If you are a poor socialist you will need to wait for your health care.

I'm happy being covered under the public option in Japan. I hope uninsured Americans will have a similar option.

Right, sure they will. < :-)

If the republicans kill healthcare reform then the demo majorities in congress will surge to even higher levels than now. The republicans killed healthcare reform in the 90s and now 50 million are uninsured and the costs for healthcare in the US have doubled. Ten years from now 25% of GDP will be spend on healthcare if the republicans succeed in 2009. And all of you reading this that live in the US will pay and pay and pay when you get sick. Many of you will go bankrupt if the effort fails now. Many of you are one hospital stay away now from going bankrupt since you are uninsured. And yet you vote republican. Amazing.

So what is the answer to all this? The cost of medical insurance is beyond the reach of many low income workers. Moreover, even for those with medical insurance, there have been many instances of HMOs employing "specialists" to find loopholes to prevent the payment of medical costs. Is that fair?
Does the current system truly benefit the majority of the population? I would really like to know. Moreover, what about the lower socioeconomic groups? Is it really in the best interest of the US that many children cannot get access to basic medical care. These are the kids that grown into servicemen and women. The people that supposedly keep the US safe. But for whom? Maybe the power elements of society should turn away from military service and let all the rich kids go out and do the dying.

Democrats want health care changes.
Drug companies will give up $80Billion in profits. Republicans don't want change.
Public Option might be off the table. Republicans don't want change.
Mecicare and VA benefits won't be effected. Republicans don't want change.
You can keep your private insurance. The Republicans don't want change.
Looks like someone likes to pay too much for drugs and nothing will make them happy but the status quo.
Democrats want change. Make it happen Democrats. < :-)

Zurc and Aday: How are you going to feel, once Obama is out, be it 2012 or 2016 as he can't run beyond that, if Repubs win the WH, Sen, and Con, controlling this so called public health care? Or are you not thinking that far into the future?

I'll still be happy that Obama beat McCain and my choice of president made it in the Whitehouse. What even says that the republicans will win anything in 2012 or 2016?
Once Obama's health care plan is passed, you think that the republicans can just shelve it? < :-)

that ain't my point aday. My point was you have trust in Obama 100% before eventually, he'll become a part of history. Someone else will become prez and a new gov period. Do you have that much faith in all dem politicians? How about if my wish comes true and a viable third party finally comes into play?
Hey, I had some dealing in La. after Katrina, with the Dem controlled state, hey, Bush screwed up sure, but that Dem leaders of that state also screwed up too... guess what, their poop stinks too.

Now you want to throw in LA and then what else? Change your post and intent as you go. I voted for Obama because the republicans never got my trust.
Want to talk Katrina, Condi was off buying shoes and couldn't be bothered and Cheney was off on a hunting trip. They couldn't be bothered and bush was completely lost.
Change your meaning again.
Republicans never talked about health care. Democrats want it for their constiuents. I voted for Obama because he cares about the people, not some special shoes or hunting quail. < :-)

"The United States is the only developed nation that does not have a comprehensive national health care plan"
Hey, we don't have a comprehensive national baby-sitting plan either.
We've survived ( and prospered ) for 230 years without socialized health care, I guess we can survive and prosper for another 230 years without socialized health care.

Actually, the level of anger against Dems is rising higher then I've ever seen it. Even back in 94 it wasn't this bad. While this isn't an election year, if Dems manage to pass this, I expect them to lose both houses in 2010. While that would certainly be good for the country, it would almost incidentally be good for Obama as well, as no more of his radical agenda would be passed, and Republicans would almost certainly reign in spending the way they did in the 90s under Clinton. So just like Clinton, Obama would get credit for balancing the budget.

Zurc: I have to agree with molenir, as we both live in the US we can tell you that anger is rising against the democrats and that the republicans are slowly coming back.
Adaydream: The republicans want health care reform also, they want a non-profit co-op public option rather then having a single payer universal health systems such as the NHS in the UK. A lot of democrats are starting to lean towards signing on to the republican plan. The republican plan also includes tort reform for the medical industry which is seriuosly need by the industry.

All these town halls you see reported on TV. They are just the tip of the iceberg. There is a reason Obama is now polling under 50 percent, and many of the same people who voted for him are beginning to think they made a mistake. I don't really know where things are going to end up. I'm not a fan of Obama. I think the democratic agenda is simply wrong for America. If people want socialized medicine, they should feel free to move to Canada. Not try to impose it on the rest of us.
