Ash? Seems unlikely on a flight from SA, but maybe the plane was exposed to it on a previous flight.

A330, again?

Ash doesn't seem to be a possible cause. The plane made it almost to the runway threshold without reporting any problems. Even if the engines suddenly suffered total failure, the plane should have easily been able to complete its approach and touchdown. The same would hold true if the engines "flamed-out" due to lack of fuel.
Based on the weather reported in the article, wind shear or other weather-related causes seem unlikely as well.
This leaves pilot error as the most likely cause. Either they flew into the ground, stalled the aircraft on short final and fell, or something bizarre like the thrust reversers were activated while the plane was still airborne, causing the plane to stall and fall.

It's good that the boy survived, but he will probably grow up with a guilt complex because of it. He will constantly think, "Why me?" It is a mixed blessing in that sense.

OK. Should we blame him for the death of the other 102 passengers?
Please keep God out of it.

The kid probably does not nor will remember it due to trauma.

TumbleDry: "Please keep God out of it."
You need to relax. People find their own ways of dealing with grief and/or tragedy, and some turn to faith. In this case it might not even be that, but merely an expression that has become so commonplace that religion doesn't even figure into it. When I say, "Thank god!" I'm merely expression feelings of relief; I don't believe in god one bit, nor am I thanking him/her.
Regardless, the person in question is also trying to search for some good in the disaster, and shouldn't be ridiculed for it.
It is a 'miracle' indeed that anyone survived, and while he's out of danger according to the doctors, I pray (again, just an expression) that the boy doesn't suffer too much from his injuries or the psychological impact of the experience.

It has been confirmed that the boy is Dutch. I just wonder if he already asked about his parents and his brother who got killed in the crash. Besides, the article says little was left of the aircraft. Maybe that's why some Arabian media sources mentioned an explosion onboard the aircraft just before landing. Hmmmmmm.....food for thought.
