The other Malala thread starts by smearing Obama before wallowing in hackneyed complaints about religious pacifism. Think we can do a little better on this one? Try to see what Malala's story means to women and children the world over.

After the Peace Prize has fallen into such disrepute over the last few years it's good to see such an intelligent and considered choice.

I agree with TravelingSales -- it's good to see a very clear cut and well deserved winner when in many cases the reasons for a recipient getting the award are odd and sometimes very subjective. And this invitation to both nations is EXACTLY the kind of reason why she deserved it. What a sad world it is that some tried to silence her (and still do) by killing her.

Well compare these two and their accomplishments.

Malala took a bullet in her head for speaking out against religious fundamentalists like the Taliban. Meanwhile Obama spends his efforts explaining away Islam inspired terrorism by denying that they are inspired by what they are telling the world they are inspired by. Obama does not comprehend that people are capable of distinguishing between the average Muslim and fundamentalist terrorists. Malala at her young age is sophisticated enough to make the clear and fearless argument for human rights.

Malala is a living example to show that not all Muslims are cut from the same cloth.

Strangerland:

" Malala is a living example to show that not all Muslims are cut from the same cloth. "

But nobody said that "all Muslims are cut from the same cloth". Is it so hard to bury that strawman?

I read a comment here recently about how all Muslims should be thrown out of Japan before they can attack us. People regularly criticize Muslim nations, ignoring the fact that they are often as varied as western nations are. And people talk about how Islam is a religion of violence, ignoring that the huge majority of the people are peaceful.

Face it, the Islamophobes treat every Muslim as being the same. If they didn't, you wouldn't see the ridiculous discrimination that you see every single day on this site alone.

Actually, no. On major political issues like Israel and blasphemy laws, the muslim countries act as an almost unified block. And by the way, I am sure you realize that no almost no muslim has signed the UN declaration of human rights? Instead, they are signatories of the Cairo declaration, which put Sharia above everything else. You call that "varied"?

Firstly, what is an "islamophobe"? A phobia is an irrational fear. Fear of political islam is not irrational by any means. Secondly, nobody here is talking about "every muslim", except you and the couple of other people who keep bringing up this strawman.

Let me hope that both Mr.Narendra Modi and Mr.Nawaz Shariff would walk together to get next years's Nobel Peace Prize by burying hatchet, building bridges between people, who have common history to share for hundreds of years, carved out their destiny together before 1947 and have same DNA. The Britishers partitioned the country and the last sixty years we see brothers are fighting on either sides of the border. Let us learn a lesson or two from East and West Germany Unification. Err... what? You blame the British for the India-Pakistan conflict? Mohammed Jinnah and the campaign for Pakistan as a muslim country separate from Hindu India does not ring a bell for you? That is an odd way to look at history, to say the least.

I call Indonesia different from Turkey which is different from Saudi Arabia which is different from Nigeria. Islamophobes try to paint them all with the same brush, when they are all different countries - some of which have a better record with women in leadership positions than western countries. Both Turkey and Indonesia have had female heads of state, which is more than most western nations can say.

When there are 1.6 billion people in the group, and you are afraid of the whole group because of the actions of a few thousand of them, it's an irrational fear.

for once they did it right, in the past thirty years most of the peace prices where politically motivated, often given as a too to encourage government overturns and some where given to people that caused more war or killings then peace. About the time that they stop being an arm of NATOs general interest.

Islam people living in my area/ They usually have many adopted children who were orphoans in their home country. Every year, one of them is honored as a Mother of Year on Mothers' Day which Bill Clinton created. The area I live is different than any other places in USA. So, this award was the only honorable within our area history. I met them a couple years ago on Mother's Day. So, I figured they are refugees.

Obama received Peace Prize. But on talk shows, opinion contributers ask back "Are you sure Obama received? When?" type questions we hear.
